Research a little bit on their specs, especially true power rating and THD.
True power will determine how much the sound will fill your listening space, and THD is the basics of sound clarity. Good ones goes to 0.01%.

I have both. I am using LG HTIB wt small Jamo speakers (+ Jamo 8in sub) in the bedroom while using the HK AVR630 wt Mission speakers (+ Paradigm 12in sub)in the living room. Had both of the system wired around the room during the last renovation.

My opinion is that HTIB has less power (less ooomph) but suitable for small enclosures, like bedrooms and small apartments. But they still can pack a punch, if you push them (especially the sub). Small speakers makes the room less cluttered.

But what r u really looking for? The price for HTIB is very cheap nowadays. Of course quality cannot beat the separate AVR units.

I guess the main thing that attracts me in a HTIB is either the wireless speakers or those virtual surround from the "soundbars". Quality is definitely not as good as true 5.1 or 7.1 but saving from the hastle of wires and speaker placement is a big draw for pple like me smile.gif

If you really want to use AVR and wireless, you can get Rocketfish wireless kit or Radioshack wireless audio link. I got them from e-bay

Added on April 29, 2009, 11:00 amAVR got more input connections, can support different speakers and subwoofer (if U wanna upgrade later), generally more features. But if U r not planning to upgrade and have small room, just get the best HTIB.

HitB is economical, simple to set-up minus cluster, compact...... but cannot upgrade components, not as powerful, difficult to replace burn-out component or blown speakers.

HITB is HT w/out the frills which IMHO is 60% of the fun tongue.gif

If you're going to spend 3K max on a home system I bet the Sony Htib would be a good choice and you might be able to get a PS3 with that budget+a couple of hundreds.

Power always have it's price. 6K should blow any Htibs away if you'd ask me. even on entry equips.

I started with a good amp and bought some entry speaker packages, upgrading them in stages, and I find that its becoming a Hobby to me.

Listen to a few, and compare between Htib vs. dedicated AVR+Speakers.
