Hey just got a macbook alu 13inch a few weeks ago, and so far the only accessory i've bought is a green hard shell case from speck, but I also wanna protect my screen, keyboard and the trackpad. I also heard that invisible shield will provide the best protection, know anywhere I can find this? Thanks in advance. smile.gif

You do not like machines? Well, you can go to Low Yat Plaza's Mac Studio.

I think other non-Apple computer shops do sell the accessories you wanted.

actually the hard shell is something like the crystal shell we applied to our HP
so, after time to time, small dust particle will be accumulated between The MBP and the cover
n will cause minor scratches

To avoid this type of scratches, it is advisable to removed the cover once a week n clean the cover and ur MBP to removed those dust particles..

i don't really recommend speck if you are lazy to clean it regularly. i bought a speck see thru for my gf's new white macbook last year. after about a week, there were small scratches all over the surface. I'd recommend protective film since it doesnt ruin the design of the mac. though it will get quite ugly and turn yellow ( the film) after a while. at least you dont risk scratching the mac

i agreed with voonz is saying that why i dont use any hard shell on my mb.. thinking of getting the film but Invisible Shield is very expensive, around rm200. that's too much for a layer of film.

i think any apple shop got sell the speck products. very easy to find.

im using the speck seethru here. i clean it like once in two weeks like that, but up until now no scratches at all. only the shell itself scratch.

honestly i dun like the shell itself, but i like using it. now i dun care if i put my MBP on a dirty table or something tongue.gif. since i hate the shell, i dun mind if it has scratches. instead if i use those leather shells, if scratch/koyak/kotor sakit hati oo

i wonder why people are looking for the invisible shield? even if you have it on and drop your macbook/MBP it'll still cause dent, doesnt that defeat the purpose of having it on albeit it protecting from scratches?

so The verdict is
Speck case - gud for protection such as drop but will cause minor scratch
Invisible shield - gud for prevent scratch but once drop, u will welcome a "bruise" for ur alu macbook

so can we put invisible shield to prevent scratch then put on a speck cover on it to prevent "bruise" if drop tongue.gif tongue.gif
juz a un-logical thinking, no flaming....

The total body Skin for the 2008 Aluminum MacBook Pro 15 inch includes coverage for the top, bottom and outside edges and the wrist rest and track pad on the inside. The battery door and all screws remain accessible so removal of the Skin is not necessary for battery changes and service.

Please note: This Skin is not compatible with the MacBook Pro introduced in June 2009 with the non-removable battery.

Dont use keyboard protection because that is the airflow. haha, black color keyboard isnt that hard to keep clean.

My protector for my new mbp as below,

http://s.lowyat.net/uploads//attach-80/pos...-1249569546.jpg

im going to use this as my case. It's texture style. and also going to buy a wireless mouse skin for my wireless MM. tongue.gif

I personally more prefer to soft case because of the touching feelings and also the hard crystal casing looks like so plastic on my mbp. Soft case also can prevent of scratching =)

Added on September 12, 2009, 10:39 pmdid you buy from this seller ? how's the quality O_o ? does it block the heat dissipation ?
*
Yeap, aluminum. yes, i bought from him. but still waiting him to deliver to me. because they dont have stock, need order from hk. for the heat dissipation, i think the top of computer is more important then the bottom layer. what i mean is the area of keyboard and also the speaker that surface. the hottest one.

I'm considering getting one, but I'm worried about the airflow beneath every MBP. After all, plastics are good heat insulators, aren't they?

Other than that, I had a bad experience applying protective skins at the back of my iPhone.

This is my currently protector for my MBP 15" unibody. Got it from our lyn seller for RM270. The quality is damn nice, at the back of the protector, its filled with feather.

Advantage
- Nice looking
- Cool Design
- Consist of 2 layer. 1st layer soft skin, 2nd later hard protector

Disadvantage
- raised up around 3-5 Celsius degree.

I'm going to buy an anti-glare LCD screen protector because the screen is TOO glossy and also a palm guard. still deciding whether buy moshi color match palm guard or see-thru palm guard which will make the palm side glossy.

Youtube review of this protector seems to say the front cannot close properly. Please advise any issue with closing the MBP after installing the cover. Thanks.

Can the invisible shield be removed when needed ? ... I fear to that it will be there forever lol >.< ... I think better to get a sleeve +_+
*
I used invi shield with all my macbooks and never regret it. It will do the job just fine to protect ur macbook from day to day scratches and dont have to add bulky cases for extra protection. U always have ur backpack to do the extra job protecting from the nasty falls and dent (look for a good quality one like Crumpler etc) plus u can put some of ur work docs or text books in ur backpack as well. Its the process of bringing the macbook in n out from the bag that drew my biggest concern due to the fact that its the only time ur macbook will be most vulnerable to scratches ie from d zip, ur other stuffs in ur bag or desk, drops by some unfortunate users etc..once it sat on the desk or ur workstation..i reckon it wud be pretty much safe...

The invi shield can be removed u just need to give ur macbook a good thorough wipe n it will be as good as new and some says it will turn yellowish after some times but I've been using it for nearly a year now n its still as good as d early days...probably i clean my macbook every now n then (usually twice a week)..so that might kept d shield in good cond...

i've found this seller selling d invi shield at a good price..ZAGG Invisible shield...Rm 110 for the unibody MBP + free postage..so u might want to have a go before their stock finishes...

And last but not least...i never applied d shield on the trackpad coz it will affect the smoothness of ur finger movements..those with sticky hands will find it even worse...so i usually use d extra shield to protect my other small gagdets which could be cut precisely depending on my needs...at least it wont go to waste... icon_rolleyes.gif
