I just bought a DVDRW drive. Sensonic brand (using TEAC drive). There are a lot of brand out there in the market, it's up to you which one do you like most. I bought Sensonic because of it's a slot loading drive and the design and color mostly matched to Z115 color scheme (glossy black on top and silver at the bottom). Performance wise, can't expect much on optical using USB powered.  laugh.gif

Yesterday go to looking your mentioned sensonic drive, the glossy top seems very easy get scratch....... btw what is the weight ? so far so good ? how bout bufallo ?

Well I'm not sure on the scratch part. Coz the unit is in the bagpack all the time. I think it can stand the abuse in many years before it looks dated. So far so good, managed to burn the recovery disc set (4 DVDs) without any error.  rclxms.gif About the weight, it feel almost like other slim drive and maybe a few grams lighter because of the exclusion of the loading tray. FYI, Sensonic does not comes with well known mastering software like Nero, Cyberlink etc. Just a freeware Burnaware which can be downloaded from the net.

Buffalo, looks like other normal slim drive. Not sure bout the performance though.  hmm.gif It comes with two colors right? Black and white. The best part is it has two years warranty. Size wise, slimmer than ordinary slim tray loader, maybe you can take a look on LG? But could not find more color choices, only silver available.

My area selling the above LG model in Black Color smile.gif Weigth wise, from the paper spec 370g
Buffalo paper spec is 340g
No info for sensonic
Samsung will come out new model 084D, do not know the outlook and weight yet.

Sony DRX-S77U Slim External 8x DVD Writer dunno when will became available in Malaysia
Nice design tought, 300g for the Drive, if with adapter is 500g +...... neither can use the USB Y cable to supply the power or no.

The not so nice about Sony slim drive is you need to carry along the adapter. That's turned me off  doh.gif What's the point having a notebook but you still need to find a powerpoint just to use the drive.... Pity Sony

Even from ur picture above u can see two cables at the rear of the drive, one is connected to the netbook, the other ?????  hmm.gif
*
Yeah, connect to the powerpoint source sweat.gif

Still do not understand why still must have adapter....... anyone tested without adapter ?

Hi all! Does anyone Sony VAIO Notebook battery discharge automatically when not in use ?

My model Z115 - Discharge automatically 10% battery life when not in use 24 hours and 5% for half day, by the way the battery is attached.

Anyone ?

I did not notice it from my unit. So far I set the battery to charge up to 80% only (default VAIO Care setting). I still got the same % on the next day. Maybe a few + & - but not up to 10%. BTW, all the time I only hibernated my notebook.

My last real time battery test was yesterday. Saturday night, full charge it to 80%, on Sunday, hang out at Kopitiam from 11AM till 3PM, running battery, stamina mode with wifi. Put into hibernation when it reached 7% juice left. Mostly I did not pay much attention on the battery percentage, just how long it can be used until the battery depleted.
*
My circumstances are -
Battery charged 80% with VAIO Battery Care function, shutdown completed at 11pm Saturday night.
Sunday night 11pm, turn on and check, 70% left. Shutdown completely again.
Today Monday morning turn on and check 65% left.....
Guess the battery automatically discharge 10% for 24 hours when it attach to the system.
Will try the detach result later.

Is that all the laptop is same ?

See ya

OK, my result as below
- Yesterday 12/04/2010 fully charged 100% at 11pm.
- Today 13/04/2010 12:30pm boot from Stamina Mode, checked 98%. Loss 2% when the battery detach/attach from the system.
- Now 13/04/2010 11:45pm boot from Stamina Mode, checked 96%. Loss another 2% when the battery detach/attach from the system.

vmad.gif My system conclusion - even detach from the system, it will loss 4% per day, is that all the notebook is same ? Or the windows battery meter is inaccurate ? rclxub.gif
Or perhaps I do not notice on others notebook ?

I see there's no difference for the W series.

Is there any difference between Sony Style (in KLCC) and Sony Center (in The Gardens and other places)?
*
Sony Style is Sony Direct Store, in the meant time, after you purchase more than RM200, you can entitle the sony style member card, price is nett.
Sony Center is a dealer, you may ask for cash rebate if pay in full (Especially at Low Yat Plaza, range RM50 - RM150)

Sony Malaysia web tend to have typo alot tho. loL
Anyway, the Z117 is no more due to shortage stock of i7. even peeps at US having this problem too. no more i7 as for now not until we hear some updates from the Intel dudes.

Added on April 16, 2010, 1:30 amso the availability of Z117 is depend on how much sony have in their warehouse.

Added on April 16, 2010, 1:32 amthe PC Fair 2010 for Sony somehow, the consumer lineup such as CW has better freebies.
*
I think sony style malaysia online is sxxk compare with ours others region (singapore, HK, taiwan, china)

Low Yat Plaza still got 2 units left for Z117 (Last 2 weeks.....)

PC fair 2010 for S and Z series looks same with normal day....

Thanks...

What do you mean by "Next sony time promotion start will be 22 April 2010"? Better freebies? Better offers?
*
Sony used to promotion 2-3 times promotion a year, there called themself as "Sony Time Promotion".
Usually the promotion time came with booklet type, all the promotion info provided.
Freebies and offers ? I think it is time to time basis.... unpredictable...... sweat.gif

noob question:

is it possible to replace the SATA 5400RPM 500G drive on the Vaio Z115GG model to an Intel X-25M SSD drive without issues? I mean any problems? would i need to replace wires/hack the enclosure or as simple as replacing drives on most laptops? The Quad SSD model is just way beyond my budget.

link below has the specs

http://www.sonystyle.com.my/ProductListing...del=VPCZ115GG/B
*
Yes, u can replace it. Actually it is SATA 7200RPM 500G. No hack or rewire needed.

Hi All ! : smile.gif This is the latest Sony Time Promotion for VAIO from 22 April 2010 to 31 July 2010
from the booklet, we can know the CW-series is End of Line (EOL). (Short Life sweat.gif )
and some rebate up to RM500 for Z116 model... (maybe it is not demanding).
For Z117 can said EOL as well, according to Sony, this due to lack of supply of i7-620M processor.

Anything can be shared with CW26? and if possible EA16?
*
CW26 = Screen Resolution 1600 x 900
Discrete Graphic Card Nvidia GT 330M, DirectX 10.1
3 x USB 2.0
Colorful
EOL
EA16 = Screen Resolution 1366 x 768
Discrete Graphic Card ATI 5650, DirectX 11
3 x USB 2.0 + 1 USB/eSATA
more colorful
CW replacement

In term of graphic performace, EA16 is better.
CW26 have higher screen resolution, both price wise is same and CW26 have more freebies maybe EOL.

Anyway, it is up to yours usage.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

If the laptop has dedicated graphic card.. and also integrated graphic accelerator[gma].. so the lappy has switchable graphic.. it can switch to integrated graphic accelerator when not need the graphic card. by using integrated graphic accelerator.. it can save battery energy consumption. thus can make battery last longer[ around 4 hours ] .. well. actually I dont really care about this..
*
I don't think so it have switchable graphic for both model. Even the CW do no have the OPTIMUS solution. So far, it is available for Z series only. In future, properly have.
