Good for you. Just dont do anything stupid with your laptop then.
Recovery discs is used when you suffers system instability, etc and you want to return your laptop to the original factory condition (the condition when you've just bought your laptop). In simple terms, it is a kind of "REFORMAT PC".

Its OK if you didn't create the disc. But when problem occurs in the future and your model have been phased out, you'll have to send it to the service center and wait for XX days just to perform System Recovery. With the disc, you an perform the system recovery by yourself and it only takes about 3-4 hours.
"Be sure to create recovery discs"

XD
Any DVD-R will do. Dont put DVD-RW. It'll reject it. It wont burn.
Yes, the recovery data is stored in the HDD.
*
Yeah. Thats right. It has all the information such as your OS, software, drivers. This means that if you wanna reformat the laptop just press F10 and if it doesnt work, Recovery Disc will be very important.

Fingers crossed nothing will happen. I am pretty confident. As V12Kompressor said, just dont do anything stupid with your laptop then... biggrin.gif

Hi fellow FW users...

Have u tried out ur lappy with running only battery?

How long can ur FW lasts? Under what circumstances, i.e: what brightness, what program running, watching movie using ROM... etc.

Do mention ur battery size too (std/ext)
*
I tried mine on Sunday actually.
With the standard lithium ion 6 cell battery I could fetch about 1hr 30 mins playing Facebook and Football Manager 2010.
When its fully charged it indicates 2hrs 28 mins.
Gonna try again with minimal usage.

I haven't really start using it since I haven't create recovery disc, afraid something bad might happen to it  tongue.gif

Are any DVDs will do to create the recovery disc?

What model are you using right now? How's your Vaio treating you?  biggrin.gif

My Vaio has been great to me. I am using FW56. Use it to watch BD and surfing the net. LOL. Sometimes I play the games that I cant play on PS3, like Football Manager...smile.gif

No issue, thanks for ur concern.

I juz wondering if my battery serves me long enuff with 4hrs+

On full charge, it shows 5hrs+
I never tried drain off fully on the battery b4. But oftenly it lasts 2hrs+ for my Internet surfing outside without the cord, and it consume about 40% of the charge.

By the way, I using an extended battery for my FW.
Something I read in Internet, never let ur battery on full charge when u not using it, or planning for long storage. Best storage is at 40% charge.

And it's no harm for us to charge it again without fully drain off. It's ok for LiIon battery to do that. But advisable to fully discharge it once a month so something inside there will have a reset. I not sure what it is anyway.

Now at home I fully run on power & detach battery. At outside, I fully run on batt. Coz the batt is 500gram already, no space for the cord d~

Pls correct me again if I got this wrong...
*
Yea..dats what I have been told. I went to Sony Style in Pyramid just now, planning to get 9-cell batt for my FW. But the price is RM925. Haih.
Better take a gud care of my battery, if not I have to swipe my cc loo. rclxub.gif

Dalphinu, if you run the laptop with the battery detached, will the cooling pad works?

What do u mean by cooling pad will work with battery detached??

Let me get this correct, u mean if I'm running the FW without the battery (detach), the cooling pad from the USB will run?
- Yes, I'm using my FW without the battery at home, the USB cooling pad is blowing.

I bought a Cooler Master Notepal but when I detached the battery, it wont spin.
I gave it to my sister (since she had an Asus) and bought a new one.
But the cooling fan should run if the battery is detached izzit? Sorry, I am a bit noob..this is my first laptop cry.gif

The extended battery is damn heavy... 0.5kg~~

But it'll save u the effort to find the plug whenever u go, it'll amaze ppl with ur huge lappy running for hours without cable outside too as a bonus  icon_idea.gif

It looks cool though as u said..but i need to fork out another 900. I will buy if there is any need.

that bar is called the vaio gate.it doesn matter, bot are the same.
i have it on my vaio fw also.
*
Yes, the bar is Vaio Gate. If you mouse over than you will see the list of icons such as Office, Webcam, WinBD and stuff. The first one is called RSS feed. I havent tried to explore yet but I believe you can turn off the RSS feed.

Regarding the sound, ot could be the fan, but I havent heard any audbile sound when my laptop is turned on. Only the annoying BDRom drive sound which I can live with it.

So it's the sound of the fan.

I believe u could only hear them when u're alone in the room in midnight, where it's very silent room.
So, who can show me how can I get this Vaio Gate thingy? Why it's not in my FW by default??
*
Dalphinus, its already there when I get my laptop.

Z series even lower.. 4.x

FW loses on the graphic card.

Seems windows calculate more on the performance of GT210M Nvidia compred to ATI 4650.

One more thing, is it worth it to buy the Vaio Cleaning Kit, anyone?

If we register the product within 7 days, would that mean we have 15 months of warranty in total?

When I bought my Vaio, I plainly ask the guy about upgrading the OS ( mine was loaded with win7hp). He just told me to buy the CD and install.

Forgive if this is a noob opinion, but I believe we have to clean install our version of Win before installing a new one, no?
