why he need Win 7 Home Premium in the first place?

The operator is only right at certain part. If the upgrade isn't done correctly, it will result in problems such as some buttons not working and wireless not working. Sometimes it might also make the whole system goes haywire (random BSOD).

However, it certainly won't void the warranty.

When I bought my Vaio, I plainly ask the guy about upgrading the OS ( mine was loaded with win7hp). He just told me to buy the CD and install.

Forgive if this is a noob opinion, but I believe we have to clean install our version of Win before installing a new one, no?
*
Obviously that guy knows very little about Vaio. After installing a fresh copy of Windows (not the Windows came together with Vaio), one have to download drivers for his/her specific model from sony-asia.com. By drivers, that doesn't mean a single file or two but A LOT.

Here's an example for Vaio SR43G:

Yupz I think so, you have to register as a premier member at Sony.com. W/o a purchase you can only register as a regular member (aka savvy member)  smile.gif
*
Yes, you're indeed right.

QUOTE(y_owez @ Jan 19 2010, 08:53 PM)
"Sorry, the individual warranty is 1year after you register the serial
number online. You can call customer service (number attach on
warranty card) for more info.

Accessories warranty 90days.
"

this is what the seller ( i found in google and offering cheaper 1k for sony sr55 )

is this true

how can i judge if th elaptop is fake or stolen?
*
See got "VAIO Official Warranty" sticker on the box and on the laptop or not.

Yes. 1 year warranty for the laptop and 3 months warranty for supplied accessories (battery and adapter)

yeah. only 3 months.

Seems like a real deal for me. From the big white sticker on the top left of the box till the small silver sticker at the rightside next of the mousepad.

Better keep it for warranty purpose. however, if you want to claim free reapir at Aussie, please register your laptop for the IRSP. More details is in the "International Repair and Service Program". It is a black book which was bundled together with the laptop purchase.

If you cant register it online (some CW users couldn't register because they are using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit), call the CIC (the 1300-something one) for help.

If planning for the i5 model, then definitely worth to wait

if taking the i3 model then... perhaps still can consider the SR since i3 performance isn't that much gain from C2D.

i5 with Turboboost. Seriously WTF

and the upcoming Z will feature Quad SSD running on RAID. Transferring 1GB of file only takes 4 seconds compared to the older model which takes about 20+ seconds (7,200rpm HDD).

If CW price become RM 2,000 then something fishy must be going on.

Those are only clearance price and the margin isn't that high.

Hi, All.... I just bought the CW16 and found that when i connect HDMI output to external display, it is only 720p, but i found the Nvidia setting got shows 1080p but unable to choose it. Is this hardware constraint? or did I miss out something? Please help. notworthy.gif
*
hardware constrain.
CW screen couldn't support 1920 x 1080

If you connect it to a Full HD screen, then it can go up to 1920 x 1080 on the connected screen.

@Revamperz: Rm 4,299 for the i3 specced and RM 5,299 for the i5 specced. Prices to change without any notice. If you're interested with the CW, then I recommend you take the upcoming CW26. The turbopboost feature is very useful. Much better than the current C2D.

Thanks for reply, what i mean is i connect to the 23" full HD LCD and found that it is only running 720p which looked pretty ugly on the big LCD. rclxub.gif
*
on cloned screen or extended screen?

y_owez: yup. Might as well consider the current SR55 if you're aiming for the i3 speced S. Or, you can wait for the model to launch and curse the sony center not able to sell off the SR55 you've put your eye (and probably heart tongue.gif) on till the launch of Vaio S.

businessmen doesn't always connected to the internet. They oni hook up the net only for a while for emails and bloomberg news, which can be provided for free with any purchase of beverage at every coffee house (for them (Z users), a cup of caramel macchiato is like a cup of teh o panas for us tongue.gif ).

that would be free man without need to work, rich as well of course.. where got business man need to rush to search for FREE wireless when he need internet access?  flex.gif
*
well of coz they dont rush to search for free wireless... laugh.gif
I mean they have wifi set up in their office, convention centers and hotels usually has wifi and etc. What I mean is, wifi will be available most of the time at places that businessmen frequented a lot.
But yeah, having that as an extra is a good feature too, but not much Z customers will benefit from the 3.5G modem and most will be underutilized.

CW and CS what's the difference? i pmed a seller regarding s series, he said CS wil replace sr. i tot cs is 14".
CW heavy le....SR more pro design.lol
if s is really not coming out then might consider the "cheap seller" option lo... u wanna join?
*
That seller so noob. laugh.gif

CW16 vs CS 36

Processor = both same
RAM= 4GB DDR3 vs 4GB DDR2
HDD = both same
Screen= LED backlit vs normal screen
Built Quality= CS > CW

Known problems:

CW
- yet to encounter

CS
- fan problem
- LCD screen problem

can. With one condition
Your laptop must be spoilt and the repair cost outweights the price of the laptop when new.

welcome to the club smile.gif
good place to buy VAIO certainly at SonyStyle KLCC , MidValley or Curve. SonyCentre goes second as its run by third party usually. Best Denki or Harvey Norman aint bad either since they did offer their own warranty aside of sony warranty.

upgrade ram wont void the warranty.
suggestion: if you are not in budget, get the CW series at least.
*
Mid Valley is a Sony Center, not SOny Style.
Kinda ironic. The HQ for SOny is at Mid Valley City, so do its service center HQ but not the direct store. laugh.gif

kencsgoo: Upgrading the RAM wont void but it is recommended using back the RAM which use the same chipset. Usually VAIOs use Elipda chipset (Kingston).
