i-Gamer hopes to stir up local gaming scene

KUCHING: Video game enthusiasts in Kuching can now look forward to affordably-priced console game related products with the opening of i-Gamer Trading at OneTJ ICT Complex here.“Our goal is to bring the price of the products to the same level as in Peninsular Malaysia because currently local gamers find it more expensive to purchase the products here,” said store owner Roland Khoo.

He is of the opinion that the Sarawak gaming scene will be more up-to-date when the prices are lower and hopefully, more people would be encouraged to try out console games other that PC games.

Previously a PC gamer himself, Khoo said the main problem (of PC game) is installing the game, whereas for console games, players only need to insert the disc and they are ready to go.

Asked on his prior experience selling console products, he said he has been doing it online through Forum Lowyatt under the Sarawak Gamers thread.

After two years of success, he decided to open a store here, and it has been in operation for the past two weeks.

“As we have had close relationship with suppliers in West Malaysia, we only need three working days to restock any item that have run out. Apart from that, we also have pre-order for items such as yet to be released new games,” explained Khoo at the store’s gaming party yesterday.

He added the store stocks almost all products available in West Malaysia and offers services like upgrading and repair.

Eventhough games are synonymous with the younger generation, he hopes to target the whole family as there are educational games like Nintendo DS’s Train Your Brain that the entire family can enjoy.

This particular game is commonly used overseas for educational purpose, he revealed.

On the newest game available, he disclosed that Red Dead Redemption for PS3 will be released on May 18 and will reach Sarawak on May 21.

Other upcoming games are Prince of Persia and Gran Turismo 5.

The store offers all game console, Sony PSP, Nintendo Wii, PS3 and XBox; games, accessories, services and wholesale to stores throughout the state.

At the gaming party, the gamers community from the online thread gathered to try out various games like Band Hero, Nintendo Wii and WiiFIT demonstration and generally having a good time.

The public can also follow i-Gamer on Facebook by typing ‘i-Gamer Kuching’ and keep track of the current update, watch game trailers and  get other information.

i-Gamer Trading is located at Lot 1-1 (main entrance), Ground Floor, OneTJ Mall.
