I think comparisons should always be made dollar to dollar, not after exchange rates. For example, an American earning USD$3000 VS Malaysian RM3000, obviously the American would have more to spend because they have higher buying power. Cars are cheap, phones are cheap too. Even food, clothing, etc are cheaper and they can buy more with USD$1000 compared to RM1000.

Personally, RM2500-RM3000 for a phone is just too expensive and not worth the price but this is Malaysia It's wise to think twice before spending on such expensive gadget.
