Hi hi, I was reading bout the thread for UTHM, so i thought perhaps u guys can help me out with some information.

I'm registering to UTHM this coming December( deferred my registration previously), for my Master course intake. I haven't been to Batu Pahat before and don't know anyone there at all so I'm worried about finding a room to rent near the Uni. I was told by the UTHM staff, they dun provide hostel to postgraduate student. I'm from Sarawak..

Hence, i have to find my own way to rent a room near the campus. I'm taking the E&E course, so i guess i will be at the main campus. I dunno anything about Batu pahat. Do u happen to have some juniors there who can help me out with the room renting situation? Any advice??

I actually got a lot of question to ask, but i have to solve my most important issue first >> Accomodation. I think i will probably plan a short trip to the area beforehand, but i need to know where to go and how to get there. Like how to get from Senai airport to UTHM? Which area is suitable to rent a room near Uni. Of course, if u guys are so nice enough to guide me when i reach there, or help find room renting info beforehand, that would be so good.

Perhaps, i can even be ur housemate. lol

those out there who actually consider coming to uthm, i'd strongly advice to rethink carefully. university life should be great and its suppose to be a lot of fun. yes, no doubt its cheap and you'd get ptptn and stuffs so u get some extra money to spend. but if it was me making the decision btw uthm and uniten, i'd go for uniten. well i've been studying in uthm for two years now. electrical engineering. and let me tell ya something, it was one of he biggest mistakes i had ever done in my life that i truly regret. first of all, i had no idea at all how the surroundings are gonna be like. i just come here cos its cheap, thats all (and my parents were glad that they dont have to spend so much sending me to college). THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE SINGLE DAY THAT I FEEL HAPPY BEING HERE. life is miserable. batu pahat is a kampung, everywhere is a freaking kampung and u wont be able to buy things easily, u've to go to town for that. the people here mainly speak their native language. if u're an english ed or a banana, which in this case i am one, u'll find some trouble living here. in terms of food, there are some cheap chinese and malay stalls around parit raja.

ok, now for the university. everything here sucks, from the quality of education down to the people here. the standard of english here sucks too. u can see plenty of grammatical errors in the learning modules which we bought from the lecturers, and its them who made those modules and sometimes its embarassing if outsiders take a look at it. those who actually enjoy studying and living around here are only the geeks and nerds. u can hardly meet cool people here. about 99.9 percent of them are the chinese and malay stereotypes. the lecturers suck in english, except mr talha he's damn cool if u meet him. he speaks english and is not racist. he kinda has a liberal thinking and he thought that uthm is a f***ed up place too. this sem i had a lecturer who is a faggot and we can hardly hear his talking. i dunno about civil engineering though, i heard that its civil's uthm notable for. there are some racists and discriminators around too, but most of the guys in my class are fine.

i have a friend who screwed up badly here and did credit transfer to a private university in kl. he's doing great in his studies now. said that its a million times better than uthm. i wish i can do credit transfer too, but its already 2 years i wonder if i can still do it. also, another friend of mine who is studying here is having problems with his annoying housemates and this wretched life and wishes to get out of this place. uthm is ranked 23rd in the list of local universities in malaysia which is amongst the last. its even beaten by mmu, ump, ums, unimas, unimap, uum, utem and many others.

After thinking deeply, I have choosen UTHM
Why? Because, I'm already there
As what? As a lecturer... :-)
So, the most important thing is learning..
Keep learning and improving day by day

haha u know mel, i've been living here in parit raja uthm 4 bot 2years now, n i find life interesting here. Like i said, one thing u learn studying in gov university is TOUGH. Learning to be tough, n u go through a process of living out of comfort zone, n this build u a stronger character b4 u enter into the reality world. You know what, it's all about your ownself. why certain ppl can find hope, life & joy in university eventhough in the past he/she was an urban freak. coz environment change these ppl, mould them, build character, n they eventually can adapt well. 2ndly, it's all about a thankful heart. If u always complain this n that, sucks here n sucks there, no wonder there's always complain? No1 can give awesome uni life to u except u creating it by urself? U did not even give a chance or space to let your heart opened to these circumstances. You are not willing to adapt to circumstances & want everything goes it your way, up 2ur standard of life (like how u live a luxurious life in d past?).

btwn.. only mr.talha? i hope u do u know that there r many lecturers out there u still havent' met. Who said only geeks n nerds, mayb u just remain within a small group that u never explore out of the group yourself? ok mayb u think, sheesh no hot chicks or no people wearing cool fashion stylo outfit on, it doesn't mean it's a geek & nerd zone. Mayb in 1st sem style & fashion is important but as d days go by, say startin 2nd sem u find dat there's no time to go through all d make up & ransacking the closet 4which accessories to put on ur outfit.. neway, u still can wear ECKO, Dr.Jays wif ur blink blink on to classes, no1 stopping u of course if dats make u cool enough

u said u had a friend who screwed up, it's he himself that did badly in gov uni, don blame uthm for that. n u do know that private uni would juz accept watever result wen u hav money rite. u can juz buy ur happiness into that uni, without learning to go through life of a student, giving up 2easily on non-urban life 2fast. that just show u can't even stand properly on "kampung" ground. come on, it's already 2years u in uthm, it's time to grow & learn to take up challenge instead of just complain complain n complain.

ur sentence: "also, another friend of mine who is studying here is having problems with his annoying housemates and this wretched life and wishes to get out of this place." there, isn't that he n his hsemates problem & also the problem he can't adapt well of the surrounding too?

Mel, if u want to gain victory u gotta go through the process of failures u got wat i mean. Look @uthm now, u only focus on the bad sides, have u, ever focus on the bright side BEFORE? ok, say u can get free (sponsored) class field trip to oversea (be it Indonesia, S'pore etc etc) 4ur course assignment. Ya, private uni have field trip2, but it's all about money too don forget. Uthm has upgraded so many facilities, the ongoing construction, so much development made, on coming indoor swimming pool, new block of library done, uthm that has hit history in raising uthm name in debate team & research etc...u can check on uthm website more often yea. what im trying to bring out here is that, UMS don just get apex status without goin tru a period of struggles, Harvard just don get 1st place in THE-QS ranking without startin from zero, get wat i mean. with all the upgrading job for uthm, i believe uthm will b raised a higher level.

"university life should be great and its suppose to be a lot of fun", just like u had said in the opening. so be part of it! best wishes 2u mel.

Wow.. life in BP area definitely sounds not so bad after all. Very anxious now.. :-D

How u all travel from place to place?? You guys got ur own car? Is it common there for student to drive there? Without car, will it be unconvenient??
*
well i have friends with own transport so able to hop on & go here there hangout. Some times we travel by public transportation too. If the group too huge, we just call up taxies & go to our destinations. It's not too expensive we all share the fares.

Well, only a few who have their own transport. Without car, if u r that kind of person who likes to travel here n there, well it's not that convenient. neway, u wanna go where from uthm, u still able to get public transportation ya

in the end it all depends on what lecturer u get and what friends you made. but from my experience and what i can see, most ppl are still very conservative in this uni. or look at the town itself. from ittho to kuittho and now uthm. i mean, not much development i see there.

perhaps it depends on how u socialize in the uni, n how u expose urself to a wide variety of challenge n open the door of opportunities. can't experience much if just remain in the same old spot, not taking any initiatives for changes. but frankly, looking back the past 10 years, BP really developed alot. n UTHM definitely changed n changing now. how long u've been in uthm...so u know what's the condition like when it is ittho rite. i would say it's a huge make over but juz mayb haven't reach what u r expecting smile.gif

Anyone here got any images of the new UTHM library? I need them for design product for UTHM. Been searching for 'em up and down but only manage to find the image of unfinished building and early illustration.

what? ok i did laugh a little. sorry didnt mean to be rude. there's one thing i would like to redefine here, by 'cool' i didnt mean one's fashion sense, its the attitude. its always about attitude. there are so many a**holes around, thats one of the f***ed up thing. And a major one too! btw youre absolutely right bhs, no arguing there. i always hear the same thing each time i 'sulk' about what a shithole im in. they all say what u said, lookat the positive side. yeah im happy for those who can do that. but i cant. forgive me but i think its just a pathetic attempt of trying to give urself a consolation or somethin. maybe i played the comparison game too much. but facts are facts.

great. glad to hear that u know that "it's always about attitude". I saw many a** holes around in UTHM, so did i see more hores & double a** holes in private institution (I did STPM in private firm). Basically, there are a** holes EVERYWHERE mel.

Well, i don't think it's pathetic alright. You said u can't coz u THINK u can't. It's all about the attitude, which means your such mentality. Compare is good. @least u know that, u got into this place of UTHM, which offer u a 2nd chance to be accepted into university, where u have the opportunity to learn. but facts can be your own conception too.
