BTW yea... I've seen Blood traces on sow's genitaL area before! In fact i bought 1 Like that & retuRned it immediateLy to the bReeder...
most of his sows weRe BLeeding the same way... at fiRst i thought it was period bLood.. then I did some research and found out GP's dont have period BLood.... I dunno wat's the cause of it but it's deffiniteLy is not a Good sign...

Which vet R u taking heR to?
*
ohhh now i remember Rexie...! hehe u love him so much ya?wow he's 3yrs ol d, u take care of him ya.

thanks to the experts here i learnt tht GP dun have period....so there must be something wrong with Nao...wuwuwuw so worried~! cry.gif she is a little sensitive especially when there is change on her diet or climate, but she is a tough girl. everyday i'll try my best to spend time with her, telling her to stay strong and eat well..i wish she will recover for this very soon...

as for the vet, i'll bring her to K9 Vet at bukit tinggi, it state on the clinic board there they can treat not only dogs and cats. I did call the clinic and found out tht the doctor is a indian lady and she said she can treat GPs. I just hope that she's telling the truth on tht....

Kaouru how old is Nao at the moment? Could have been, the uterus isn’t in proper place or prolapsed? Or maybe a tear or internal hemorrhage within the uterus or birth canal. Also u mentioned nao showed signs of being week.. usually after pregnancy, and they show signs of lethargy.. it could be toxemia~ But... I can't be certain myself but its best to get to a vet sad.gif I hope nao recovers well..

female guinea pigs do not exhibit a menstrual flow.. so if there is blood.. there is definetly something wrong huhu~
*
I just called my bro to help me check on Nao's condition, she looks better now, with her kids sleeping next to her. i asked my bro to gently lift her up tp check and my bro said no blood on the genital parts. she is reacting very well too as the signs of fatigue is less then last night. I am realived to hear that, but have to see the vet and monitor her for a few more days, see if she fully recover or not. I wish she'll be fine...she is the most energetic female i got so seeing her like this really hurts me...

Perhaps you could put in something for him to chew, since he likes paper, you could give him toilet roll core for him to play and chew.  At least that one doesn't contain ink that may possibly toxicate your GP.

Added on May 30, 2009, 11:52 amYesterday my Perubby baby nearly died, when I found him in evening, he was unconscious.  I have to hand feed him water, vitamin C, and milk to regain his consciousness.  As his mom is a first timer mom, inexperience, and may be didn't feed him milk, so that is why the baby is either in hydration mode.    Now I put 2 of them with other experience mom and babies.  Hopefully the baby will at least learn from other babies how to drink and eat.  This Perubby's mom so dumb, she could not recognise her own baby, keep grabbing other babies as hers.  LOL!  And her baby look for other mom to drink milk as well.
*
OH NO how is the baby now? yes its really lucky to have experienced sow got pregnant in at the same time, they help alot on keeping the babies from inexperienced sow alive. I had the same problem with nao at forst to, since she is so terrified with her baby, then Cyndy volunteer to help her feed n keep the babies warm. after a few days Nao did it on her own, and now she help Cyndy's babies in return...love the harmony i seen on them all rclxms.gif

aha i like the word "Perubby" my go babies are American+Abby, so what to call them? Amebby? hahaha~!

Went to the vet yesterday, doc examine Nao's tummy (she massage softly here and there, also check Nao's genital parts and take mucus sample from the xxx) n said the uterus are inplace and fine, she suspected an infection on Nao's um..."salur kencing" she ask me if i allow her to jap nao but i refuse and asked her if she can suggest medicines for her. Nao is jumping and squeaking for food this morning, she recover her spirit abit so i think she'll recover soon, i really hope so happy.gif

drool.gif  drool.gif moreee new babiesss??? wow all of them ar sooo cute...

hum i have a problem..nubby is tooo active...i cant keep up..and he chews everything and anything...how do i stop him from chewing the newspaper at the bottom of the cage? even i layered it with towel..he's so claver that he would dig out the towel and find the newspaper...i dont mind him tering the paper..but he eats them..... cry.gif  cry.gif
*
I think Nubby is like my male GP Shiki, he is VERY active...i now keep the cage door open coz if i dont he will chew the bars and everything inside the cage... sweat.gif so now he's free to roam around the house. luckily he did not intend to hide or run away, he just run here n there, then when he's tired he'll sleep next to my hedgehog cage...hai this naughty guy..... sweat.gif

OMG....Juztiny tht is so sad......I'm terribly sorry for the lost....you house how many sows in the same cage? is this baby the only baby, no siblings? Maybe the mom is not experienced yet....

May baby RIP...hope he found my other GP babies who already cross the rainbow bridge early this month....they can be good friends up there...hang in there ya Juztiny~!

Well in my opinion, actually the reaction towards a newborn GP varies for each individual GP. For my experience gentler sows, which has good temperement (like my Cyndy) will help other inexperienced pregnant sows to take care of the babies, while other sows (like my Yui) will keep away for the newborns (even her own) and will attack if the babies get closer...so it mainly depends on the GP's personalities and how experienced they are to maternity. Some sow will learn form their instinct on how to handle the babie, while the other might freak out and hide in the corner...

There are also other possiblities that may result the baby's rejection, like maybe abnormalities, weak or the sow sense something wrong on the baby...Like by my observation, my Yui reject her one and only baby because the baby is so weak, barely moving and possibly blind.I tried to save her but i cant...

I think this why many websites did not encourage GP breeding..there are many possiblities and complications that may occur to the pregnant sows and to the babies.

haha they are both popcorning and eating like there's no tomorrow~! rclxm9.gif I just cant tahan when i saw them try to learn to drink form the water bottle, wah so cute cute kawai~!!! thumbup.gif I'm now letting them getting get use to human handling and touch. They are still a little nervous when i hold them, but they are getting better everyday. In earlier attempts they will squirm and wheak so loud till the whole house can hear when i bring to the living room sweat.gif but now they are much calmer..hehe dun worry will get them ready for you ya~!

SugarcoatedCandy >> yes having to witness a baby being rejected by the mommy really is so sad...Its fate and a mystery to the animal world so there is actually not much we can do if such thing happen...let us hope the lovely babies found each other up there and popcorning happily together.... cry.gif

ya ya its very hard to identify the sex at early age...now i'm abit confuse with 1 of my baby GP MiMI....now mimi's genital part looks like male, when last week its female....now takut mimi is male coz Mr.Hikano will take mimi n brownie, both is sibling, n brownie is female.... rclxub.gif

izzit possible that its the nature of GPs, when they are born their sex anre not determine yet, and the genital parts will only develop to become either one (male or female) only after a few weeks time? which means there is no 100% guarantee tht the newborns that look like female became male after 2 weeks? oh no scary..... blink.gif

Jacklene cheer up ya, its proven to be a little tricky to sex GPs....

toilet training a GP is not so easy....as for the bedding i do not suggest newpaper ...non-processed newspapers are not very absorbant, if a GP pee on it iw wont absorb the pee as fast as it should. Plus we do not know if the ink or chemicals used to bleach the papers are safe or not. i suggest using processed recycle paper beddings such as Breeder Celect. may i know what cage are you using? feel free to post the GP pics and ur cage settings so we can further assist you on providing the best for your GP. And please read the 1st post of this topic for guidance.

as for ur GP name, it is best for you to spend a little time with ur GP, see if his behavior or appearance will give u an idea on his name. take ur time, it will be more meaningful if you name ur pet urself, right? happy.gif

um....so this box has no lid? you leave it open rite? i think its not suitable cage for a GP. you should atleast buy zoozone or rabbit cages that is about as wide as the box ur using now, the bigger the better. i use single storey cat cages for them. the most important thing to watch when you select a cage for ur GP is good ventilation and a well covered bottom (no mesh bottm please~! u have to line the mesh bottom with bathroom mats coz GP legs could get stuck and broke between the mesh) Please read the ist post, you need a lot of knowledge before you own a GP. they are not like cats you can set free n roaming around ur house, they need proper housing, bedding, pellet food and hays,a little of fresh veges and fruits, a cover box or his "small home" inside his cage, and lots of attention. as for the cage and other basic guides , you can read here http://www.guineapigcages.com/

this might gives you an idea. the beddings you put in the cage are so little, the whole cage floor should be covered by bedding. coz GP pee n poo ALOT, and like i told u b4, its not EASY toilet training them...i now have 4 gps (i once have 12), NONE is 100% toilet trained.....

as for now, what food are you giving him? please spend you time read the ist page ya, it will be VERY helpful...

limie-san still looking for male GP? why dont buy 1? male GP in my opinion will not have many problems if mixed with older female at early age...

I'm very frustrated this morning. I woke up around 6am to clean my GPs cage (i usually clean them on sunday but this week so busy...) right now my male shiki is in his personal cage, female yui in another personal cage and another 2 female cyndy n nao share a big cage. i separate yui from the other 2 female after all of them pregnant at the same time, as yui has major fur loss and need special attention...

Since all their babies are sold, i wish to put yui back with the other 2 females to save space. but as i tried to move her (this is the 3rd attempt) yui starting to become very aggresive, she do those "mating" dance-like, purring wildly and try to conquer the food bowl. any gp try to get close her will be chased away. then she will try to chase them and bite them until some strings of hair on her mouth....i was so worried and checked the other GP that has been bitten, lucky there is no bleeding...if this things happen, can they eventually make up with each other should i separate them forever? Yui was the most friendly gp before her pregnancy, she live with the other 2 very happily before...i'm so sad that she act this way...T_T now have to buy another cage for her coz i plan to move shiki to her old cage as the one shiki lives in is a temporary one.... :sigh:
