QUOTE(AlamakLor @ May 27 2011, 12:15 AM) The SBT + Dac setup delivers what I'd call the best bang for the buck digital setup. Personally, after hearing a ton of "digital" setup, including audio aero capitole reference and many highly acclaimed and fairly expensive setup (if not beyond many people's reach), I'd decided to stop my digital venture at this stage. The next logical upgrade step which would yield significant improvements in SQ would be stepping into the LP world A Nottingham TT is what I've been eying for awhile did you listen to the Weiss DAC as well?

QUOTE(yonggoh @ Sep 6 2011, 05:57 AM) sexy!!! how much for say... a ~30TB capable synology rack with NAS? that would mean the RS2211+ which goes for RM5030 from C-Zone http://www.synology.com/products/product.p...211%2B&lang=enuhttp://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?stor...id=186687294898

QUOTE(yonggoh @ Sep 6 2011, 08:23 AM) aahhh..that makes that desire a tad less affordable well - it's enterprise grade stuff, not consumer level. you're probably paying for stuff that you don't really need, but then again, you don't get typical consumers going for 30TB rack NAS's

here's a comment from a DIY speaker designer, John Krutke "Zaph", in the FAQ section for one of his pages (http://www.zaphaudio.com/ZA5/):
Any chance of designing bipole and/or dipole surrounds? No chance of that, and I recommend a ZA5.2 monopole for surrounds. The reason is that typical bipole and dipole surround speakers are seriously flawed designs, and the issues can be very audible in most installations. With dipole, generally 2 woofers and 2 tweeters are mounted in an angled cabinet and wired out of phase. If you sit exactly on axis, it's a full null in response and all you get is a reverberant sound field comprised of the systems's flawed power response. Interesting and sometimes freaky spacious sounding, but not at all realistic. Going off axis, even slightly, will result in a seriously combfiltered frequency response. Bipole surrounds have similar issues except that they will only sound normal on axis. Off axis, comb filtering shows up fast, particularly if the design has two tweeters. A final bit of information is that most mixing and mastering studios use monopole surrounds because studio designers are also well aware of the problems of bipole and dipole designs. The commercial hifi market is loaded with bipole and dipole surrounds because people keep buying them.
no comment since I'm not a technical person...but interesting nonetheless

QUOTE(tim_1335 @ Nov 22 2011, 11:59 PM) So everyone who has been using bipole or dipole speakers is affected by a serious combfiltered response? that's his personal opinion with some technical context. but in the end, it's really up to you to buy whatever sounds best to you

Did some DIY recently and placed my extra satellites as surround speakers. Really noob in drilling so I got my entire living room and my lungs filled with concrete dust..ack... but the results are quite interesting.. paired with Belden 1311A cables from ckyongs that I got my contractor to install during renovation, with some DIY banana plugs from forum as well my parents also went for long overseas trip, and since funds are tight, decided to "borrow" my dad's old Kef iQ7 floorstanders along with some transparent cables, still using my puny satellite center though. Previously was partnered with a simple soundstage tube amp, not much bass. Now with my 2311, I guess abit more, but not as much as newer generation speakers that I have listened to. Still a big difference in listening even though just some simple manual settings in the AVR, no audyssey yet The journey continues... This post has been edited by ADJ: Apr 17 2012, 08:13 PM

QUOTE(pokchik @ Apr 18 2012, 12:30 PM) HDMI/power cable for LED is concealed - was this done DIY also? haha, definitely not I renovated my house, and changed all electrical wiring. In the process I got my contractor to put a pipe in the wall for the HDMI/power cables to run through, and run the rear speaker cables all the way to the rear of the living room as well. The only DIY was to wall mount my TV and install the rear speaker mounts on the wall.

QUOTE(DannyOP @ Apr 23 2012, 10:44 PM) Oh.. Then now I know why you prefer the different floor stander with your centre, due to the extra bass effects. Satellites without sub will have a lot of frequencies missing. yea, the sub's amp went kaput due to a leaky cap, nothing that Mr Oh could do QUOTE(junchoon @ Apr 24 2012, 11:07 AM) hi, do u still have any Belden 1311A left? thanks, wps i wish i did i ordered quite a bit from ckyongs for my rear surrounds, and expected to have sufficient balance for my fronts. however, the balance was stolen along with other electrical cables during the night by copper thieves, including my contractor's tools etc This post has been edited by ADJ: Apr 24 2012, 03:50 PM

QUOTE(99gloomy @ Jul 10 2013, 09:35 AM) Want to ask opinion from you guys. Anyone uses the below entry level speaker package before? Do they sound different? or i should go for the cheapest one? what do you guys think? Yamaha NS-p20 Yamaha NS-p40 Yamaha NS-p380 BTW, was looking at boston acoustic soundware xs 5.1 as well, but reading online and shop does tell me that the subwoofer has some issue, u guys got any experience with it? thanks have you considered the Pioneer HTP-AJ3222 set? It's going for RM2699 at Harvey Norman including the AVR whereas others are RM2999. The main speakers are the Andrew Jones series, you can google for reviews. Sub is a local Pioneer Malaysia model though...

QUOTE(iman_210 @ Sep 6 2013, 11:02 AM) m referring to pioneer ones. I have the set, using with a Denon 2311. Got it as a gift, but considering the price that it sells for, minus the cost of the receiver, I think it's really really good for non-demanding casual users. It is easily better than most satellite systems/HTIB, and brings down the cost of entry for "proper" speakers. Something like, if you wanted to get floorstander/bookshelf/center/sub system, but even the cheapest brands would require like RM3-5k, then now you can get this for much lower than that, and the quality is decent enough. As always, always audition it, and if it's acceptable to you, and within your budget, then go with it. Assuming you get the cheapest HTP-AJ3222 set, you will get everything you need on the audio portion except for speaker cables. A simple RCA cable is included for the sub. In KL you can audit it in most electrical stores that sell Pioneer products. Some reviews here (ignore the sub, the Malaysian sub is different): http://www.analogplanet.com/content/tads-a...peakers-pioneerhttp://reviews.cnet.com/surround-speaker-s...oneer-sp-pk52fshttp://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-57490890...dable-speakers/http://hometheaterreview.com/pioneer-sp-fs...eaker-reviewed/http://www.audioholics.com/tower-speaker-r...oneer-sp-pk52fshttp://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/spe...tem-review.htmlhttp://thewirecutter.com/reviews/a-great-bookshelf-speaker/http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/p...lr-loudspeaker/hope this helps This post has been edited by ADJ: Sep 11 2013, 04:58 PM
