For those of you who having frequent disconnection, DSL light blinking, before you even pick up that phone and start dailing 1300-88-9515, make sure the steps below is checked.

1. Your phone is free of noise (listen carefully as no static or whatever distortion noise).
2. Check your ADSL SNR and Line Attenuation. (For wired router ONLY)
3. Speedtest anyone? I assume there's plenty of links posted for your testing pleasure.

1. Your phone should be working correctly, if it has noises, plug direct to the socket, if it's still the same, call up 100, yes, 100 to either check your phone or check your phone wiring problem. Check also not too long or having too much extension from the socket, too much extension increase resistance and create noise.
If the technician came, and if the wiring inside the house is fine, have them check the box at the pole outside, the wiring might be too old and loosen, if the noise still presist, tell them so, and they might check other exchange, it might be other exchange that having that loosen wire problem.

2. Dlink is 192.168.0.1, type the IP of your router modem at Internet Explorer (or Firefox, etc.), don't know? Click on the LAN icon on the bottom right, click Support at the top, the Default Gateway is your router modem's IP. Head on to status, then ADSL status. (Note: Each router modem has its own interface, click around, it's easy, look for the keyword "ADSL" and/or "status")

Click if you have this, I assume most novice user won't have their icon shows here, look below.

Go START -> Control Panel... lalalala...

OK, I think I posted one for this problem before but I going to do it again.

SNR [Signal Noise Ratio], here you should expect more than 20 to be able to connect, 25 to get a smooth and good latency, higher better, 30+ should be able to get a stable and smooth 2Mbps line, 4Mbps needs around 40+? (correct me if I'm wrong).
Line Attenuation, now this is the opposite of SNR, the lower the better, meaning there's less noise/distortion at your phone line, below 10 usually, more than 20 is still acceptable, but not smooth enough to play online games. 25+? expect frequent disconnection.
Q: OK, now I know that my SNR is goat dem low, and Line Attenuation is as high as KL tower, what should I do next?
A: If your Line Attenuation is more than 40, you should already face it in 1) noises/static/distortion, what do you call? 1300-88-9515? NO! It's 100, don't waste your time calling streamyx and have them tell you to call 100, because it's phone line issue.
Streamyx SNR Margin, --Read here if you face disconnections-- (Broadband Problems)

3. [This is for the working connection, assuming you got it connected, somehow] Ok, now I assume this is what the technician might tell you to do, but just freaking do it before he told you too, this is to assume that before he told you to, it's working OR NOT. Sometimes after he told you to, they might had already reset your port and everything seems to be fine, yeah~ right...

Speedtest, website? try perform search on this particular sub-forum, you should find many people are posting them, go for it.
Here's one that is quite reliable, so far.

This post is neither TM-fan nor Anti-TM subject, no flame (there's already few rant topics), post your comment on your result, ask and answer on related topic, thanks.

theoretically and in reality, if you have blinking DSL lights, how the hell do u do a speedtest ?

and no i dont believe in your steps. when frequent disconnection happens so often, it is best to just call 1-300-88-9515
or go to the nearest internet cafe which is RM 2 per hour and send an email to custcare.

unless your router is high tech, or a 2 in 1 with modem, you cant see SNR's and line attenuation. so what you should be saying is check it on your modem or modem/router.
i own 1 belkin and a netgear and they both dont show SNR's.

Thanks TS for ur kind intentions but what u claim are unacceptable. ADSL blinking means there are some problem to the steamyx port outside ur house or they have freeze ur account!!!! u check ur modem 100000000000000000000000000x time also useless. Sometimes call 1300889515/100 will on asked to repeat the steps. U r TM operator ? FTW....

Those what I had input is what at your site, not the Telekom, if you're confirmed that those above steps won't work, call up 1800-88-9515 or 100 accordingly, you can also have them check if your account is freezed or has been suspended.

Your comment sounded that you didn't bother to check and shout at those technician meaninglessly, or you didn't know how to check at all?

I did point out "Router modem" only?

I just want to point out that the number is not 1-800, it is 1-300. Or you can just call 100 and select Internet / Streamyx option.

I once experienced frequent disconnection with my adsl, so i check all my pc spec, cable, nic card, pc hardwares, viruses infection, phone line,
seems nothing wrong, finally suspected is the adsl modem faulty, so i swithed my modem with friend and finally the solution has came up, zzzzz is the modem which cause the problems, it was due to overheat, whenever the modem has been power on for a long period, it would hv frequent disconnection, i called up tmnuts and bla bla bla to them(my package>modem included) and they giving so many excuses, now i hv to buy a small fan to cool down the tmnut modem 24/7.

Hi wildwestgoh ,
Thanks for your tips.

About no.1. The noisy line. I called 100. The technician came with bare hand.
He tell me to change all the cable inside the house ,splitter, connector and leaved. I did that. The problem still the same.
I call again 100. Another bare handed technician came tell me the same thing. I did all that again. And the problem still the same.
I call again 100. Again Another bare handed technician came tell me the same thing again. I thanked the technician.
About six month I paid for that often disconnet service. I have to terminate the line of my house to prevent the loss of money.

About No.2. As a customer , I don't think we need to know so well. And we can't do anything if the snr is high or low.

About No.3 It doesn't garantee you get good rescult, you get good download speed at all site.

Are you the stuff or represent TM or other ISPs?
All the No.1,2,3 sound like that for me.

Thread Pinned

I've edited the topic and hopefully it would reduce the number of threads on similar questions and hopefully it can educate folks a bit on how to troubleshoot by themselves !

Oh yeah , just put a note that not all routers are in 192.168.0.1 , just provide a picture would be nice as well

Thanks again for your superb guide !

OH HELL NO, I just need to point out that you the user need to know there's such stuff exist, and not to let those n00b technician guess your problem, if those technician doesn't even know what's SNR or Line Attenuation, they shouldn't be one. You should let them see your modem's ADSL status, tell them about SNR and Line Attenuation, let them know that it's not your problem, it's theirs.

I had my ADSL since 2003, and I didn't know all of this before because I'm using an USB modem, I have been under the well for the whole 2.5 years before the modem died off and force me to buy a router modem. From there I learn, I force them to check the cabling, they rewired from the pole's box right into my house's socket, it was only temporary measure, and I call again after sometimes, it was the other exchange that's having the problem, and guess what, it's stable after that, I didn't make any more calls unless the server went down or port having issue.

AND AGAIN, I'M NOT TM STAFF NOR ANTI-TM, but as a user, I learn this to ensure myself to know that they're doing their job. And this also ensure you're not feeling cheated, learn a bit technical stuff won't hurt you much, and it can sometimes make you feel better because you know more than they do, you have the RIGHT to know.
