![]() iPhone to preview iPhone OS 3.0 on March 17th. The last time this happens, close to a year ago, when iPhone OS 2.0 was previewed, the new iPhone 3G comes shortly after. Heads up to those who doubted the fact that a new iPhone is coming generally, and those who doubted my own forecast cynically before. Logic and history dictates. Keep up or zip up. Just saying.......... * * * NEW INFO! For those keeping tab on the iPhone 3G[S] scene, some good news. Remember this link? Before this it shows which country provides unlocked iPhones based on their carriers. Now, it has been updated to include columns on which carrier provides MMS and Internet Tethering as well. I would presume, since these two new columns marks as new updates, the state of "which carrier/country provides unlocked iPhones" are also updated as well, and the list is now updated to include the state of unlocks for the 3G[S] as well. If that is the case, these following countries are the countries are currently still providing unlocked iPhones to their customers, and presumably the same state of unlocks for the upcoming 3G[S]:- Countries with officially unlocked iPhone 3G, and therefore presumably, the iPhone 3G[S] CODE Belgium(Mobistar), Czech Republic(O2, T-Mobile, Vodafone), Greece(Vodafone, Cosmote), Italy(TIM, Vodafone), Luxembourg (Vox, LUXGSM), Russia(Megafon, MTS, Beeline), Turkey(Turkcell), Hong Kong(3), Macau(3), Malaysia(Maxis), New Zealand(Vodafone), Singapore(SingTel), Taiwan(Chunghwa Telecom), Thailand(Truecom), Saudi Arabia(Mobily), UAE(Etisalat), South Africa(Vodacom) There are a list of countries whose carrier provides official unlocks for their iPhones even though the initial state of the iPhone is locked, but I wont bother posting those. The process of these unlocks REQUIRES the presence of these iPhones to be within the country which provides these unlocks, and such logistics and planning can throw a lot of the planning off. My targets are the iPhones from countries above because they are more than likely, because of their law, REQUIRES their iPhones to remain unlocked officially. Among the countries listed above, here are their release dates:- First Wave CODE Italy - June 19th Second Wave CODE Belgium - June 26th Third Wave CODE Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa - July 2009 The rest are on the Fourth Wave which is in August 2009. that's why i'm still holding on to my current 3G. looking forward to this event. can't wait to see how creative Apple will be with 3.0.
off-topic : any idea how to view this particular event online? This post has been edited by teikwing: Mar 13 2009, 02:13 AM |

Watch online? Dont think so. you can expect sites like Macworld, Gizmodo and Engadget to cover it blog-style just like the previous events.
This event may coincide with the current rumor on Apple's new 10 inch touchscreen device circulating. This may end up either being a netbook, but seeing how Apple's previous statement/stance on netbooks and their dismayed outlook at it, it may well up being the long-overdue Mac Touch with WWAN connection. Either way, good times ahead. |

String,
maybe Apple will also announce the 32gb iphone at that time as well. Heard that OS 3.0 enable MMS and bluetooth tethering for iphone. That is loooong overdue. Cydia already providing bluetooth A2DP. |

According to AppleInsider, maybe there will be MMS and serve as Internet Connection for iPhone 3.0
QUOTE Possible iPhone 3.0 features leaked While Apple has only just said it will introduce iPhone 3.0 at a special event next week, rumors have already surfaced of what the major refresh of the mobile OS will bring. Well-known technology insider Boy Genius said he has been told of two new features so far. Notably, iPhones would get Multimedia Messaging Service support, or MMS. The standard is used to send photos and videos in a form similar to text-only SMS and has long been popular for trading content between phones for several years. Apple is one of the few phone manufacturers to leave out MMS. iPhones would also purportedly get data tethering, or the ability to serve as the Internet connection for a computer, for both a direct USB connection as well as over Bluetooth. The update would put iPhones on a par with the data options for most smartphones. Both claims haven't received additional support and should, for now, be seen as potentially inaccurate. However, AT&T has already said that tethering would come soon to iPhones. LINK it's just a rumored.. hope it is true.. This post has been edited by siawgu: Mar 13 2009, 08:49 AM |

Most likely the next generation iPhone will have better hardware under the hood other than cosmetic changes on the outside, I'm excited to see if there's any changes in the GUI of iPhone OS 3.0.

You'll probably find another new iTunes update right after they announce iPhone third generation in June/July.

QUOTE(sugen @ Mar 13 2009, 09:36 AM) Since apple had officially announce that JB is illegal.. I believe they will PREVENT any JB possibility in Fimware 3.0.. This could include update of itune as well but what if jailbreaking got the exemption of rule against breaking access protection? btw the result wont appear that early. mmm...btw hope there will still be way to jailbreak iPhone OS 3. btw it's too early to speak on that. sorry OT already. but yeah, hoping for some new feature on iPhone OS 3, there should be something worth to grant the OS a new number. QUOTE(nokia2003 @ Mar 13 2009, 09:28 AM) well iTunes 8.1 were meant for the new release of iPod Shuffle, and Voice-over features errm... i do think that there is alot of user out there wishing Apple to have Cut/Copy and Paste function on iPhone 3.0... if i were a user i too wish to have it, is just some times too troublesome to retype something... of course Apple gonna try to prevent JB again... its a common sense for them to protect themselve well stay tune on March 18, as we are almost 1 day earlier than US |

Duh, new firmware and SDK development kit will be introduce by Apple to developers before releasing it to the general public or new iPhone. They discuss it now and release it together with the iPhone in June or July.
It's all about software not hardware. Always remember that Apple refresh their product line up once every year so last year's iPhone 3G was release on July 11th so this year would probably be in June or July. |

QUOTE(cRazYee @ Mar 13 2009, 10:38 AM) but yeah, anytime a new hardware preview will be nice. btw last year, the iPhone 3G is officially unveiled on WWDC which is in June, not on the SDK event in March. so looks like a new generation wont appear yet, but who knows what will happen rite. myb it's more like gearing towards the new more powerful iPhone hardware. so developers can start building apps and get ready ahead of the release. there are bunch of features introduced on last year's SDK press conference (enterprise features, Core services, etc). but what's more interesting on that time is Core Location, of which is fully utilised on the yet-to-be-released iPhone 3G's GPS. so most likely there will be something worth the new OS number this time (just like what i've mentioned before) This post has been edited by LaskarCinta: Mar 13 2009, 11:17 AM |

OT abit, btw garmin nuvifone looks nice though. This post has been edited by LaskarCinta: Mar 13 2009, 11:41 AM |
