Broadband provider
ISP/package: Streamyx
Location: Klang
Have you called your ISP's helpline?: Does not concern them.

Personal equipment
Modem: Belkin F5D7634
Router: -same-
Firewall used: -same-

Problem details
First occurence of problem: The first day i bought it!
Problem frequency: Regular
Problem description:

I bought a Belkin G wireless modem router yesterday at Lowyat and the spanking brand new modem was supposed to replace my aging Aztech 600ew which i have used for nearly 5 years without any problems until recently. The problem here lies with the speed and signal strength. It fluctuates a lot and really unstable to the point that it disconn regularly.

I'm not asking for a solution as i intend to replace it 1-to-1 but i just wanted to know if this is a regular problem with previous or current Belkin users...

p/s: Should have bought Linksys wag54g instead... cry.gif

my friend is not using this model specifically BUT the occasional signal strength fluctuation does happen.

the silly thing that my friend did to reduce this is to move the router closer to the PC doh.gif yes, it defeats the purpose of wireless sweat.gif

Keyword here, your friend - occasionally.... mine - frequently.

The problem with my situation is that the salesman that sold me the product yesterday told me that i could change 1-to-1 if it is faulty. Today i called him, he taichi-ed me to Belkin's customer support telling me that i need to do the proper process. When i called up Belkin (AVF actually), they asked me to bring the modem to its office to make sure i didnt lie about it. Aiyoh! So many problems, so much time going to waste. I am so frustrated and angry right now. That lowyat shop will definitely be on my blacklisted list.

I'm having the similar problem with this type of modem. How u solve it after that ?

The LAN connection is ok just the wireless bandwidth and speed very slow, the signal strength is also fluctuating if compare to my old D-link DI-524 router.

Not sure whether its limitation of the hardware or any other reason.

if my laptop is in the same room as the modem(f5d7634),it works fine but the speed is going up and down. but if i leave the room and go to the hall, it will be so slow till sometimes i could not even load a website.i'm so disappointed with the modem compare to my older modem(f5d7632)

i was just wondering, belkin warranty is international warranty or local warranty?

I had the misfortune to buy an f5d7634 a few weeks ago to replace my old talk talk modem with separate wireless router, which would go for months without dropping my internet connection. The f5d7634 drops it on average about once an hour. If I leave it, it does reconnect after another hour or so - but if I disconnect its power supply and wait for half a minute or so before reconnecting, it re-establishes the internet connection after about 10 minutes.

Has anyone found a solution, or should I junk it and buy a different make?

i used belkin before and i did experience similar problem my solution: upgrade firmware to the latest, called streamyx to check on the line...somehow...it gets better after 3 weeks...not sure is it streamyx fault or hardware fault...

btw, the cause of my frequent disconnection is extreme ping spike...

Thank you, LovesReborn - I checked the Belkin site and the firmware available for download is the same version that the f5d7634 came with, so I don't think there's any point in re-installing it. And I'm 99.99% sure it's not my ISP's fault, since the problem has only occurred with this modem - everything was fine for several years until I changed to the Belkin.

I have Belkin wireless modem/router. I did experience drops in connecting. When I check with my neighbors, we realized we share a common problem even though we are have different types/brands of modem.
Our ports at the little TM rumah beside the road got hit by lightning. After the repair you will need to reset and reconfigure the Belkin. Hope this helps.

i changed to belkin cause my previous router got struck by lightning...that might be the cause of my temporary slowdown....

I tried a reset, but still suffered frequent disconnections. In the end I swapped it for an Edimax modem router - same price, within a couple of quid - it's been running for 3 days now without dropping the internet connection. I'm happy again at last! Perhaps there was just a fault with my particular Belkin modem.

I bought the similar product and problem i encountered as below

1. Signal not stable , i can see the signal strength move from 'Fair' and "Excellent" and the wireless connection speed drop from 54mbps to 11mbps constantly.

Call up local All IT centre . they said this router is for single story not double story ... then i move my laptop to use at second floor where i place my router... still the same . call up belkin support and ask me to reset to default .. still the same ..

happened to me but my router is PCI(Planex Comm Inc.)...

wat i did was make sure the channel number in my router and in my lappy r the same... and do permanent client IP set in router... not manually in the network connections... i think the solution is to do the permanent client IP... hmm.gif

this also occured in certain new DLink routers...

symtom: the wireless connection icon goes to "searching for IP address"... hmm.gif

I do have the same problem as TS mention. I brought this modem router to replace the spoil aztech. Seems like not a good choice.

The wireless side DC frequently. After reset it by switch of it, still the same. I place the modem router from my laptop about 1 meter.

have u guys tried with other wireless channel ? do note that even if the existing product are on G (or even N mode), the frequency range that each channel send out from the router might not be able to be received properly by your wireless adapter. try to change to a lower channel and see if that works.

another issue is more and more wireless network are appearing everyday now.. if you or your neighbor(s) uses the same channel, it will affect your reception. so you'll need to play around with the channel if you have problem wif the wireless connection.

My Belkin F5D7634 Wireless G Router has this problem where occasionally (once in 2 days or so) i can't establish an internet connection with any of my devices (Desktop, Netbook, PDA).

The SSID is there, the signal is great, but when you click Connect, nothing happens. I just need to restart the router (OFF/ON the power, coz the Reset button doesn't do anything when this occurs) and everything goes back to normal.

Didn't have this problem with my Aztech 600EW
