What should I do to be able to play CS: Source?

1. First things first. Download and install Steam here: http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=getsteamnow
2. Connect to the internet and make a new Steam account. If you already have one, just login. You should be able to see Counter-Strike: Source at the Play Games menu under Just Released.
3. Using a Visa or Mastercard credit card, you will be able to purchase either one of three packages below:
   1. Gold US$89.95
      INCLUDES:
      ▪ Half-Life 2*
      ▪ Counter-Strike:Source
      ▪ Half-Life 1: Source*
      ▪ Day of Defeat: Source*
      ▪ Valve's back catalog available on Steam.
      ▪ PLUS: HL2 posters, full strat guide, soundtrack, hat, collector's box, postcard & more
   2. SILVER US$59.95
      INCLUDES:
      ▪ Half-Life 2*
      ▪ Counter-Strike: Source
      ▪ Half-Life 1: Source*
      ▪ Day of Defeat(tm): Source*
      ▪ PLUS: Valve's back catalog available on Steam!
   3. BRONZE US$49.95
      INCLUDES:
      ▪ Half-Life® 2*
      ▪ Counter-Strike(tm): Source(tm)
4. After you're done purchasing one of the offered packages, proceed to download the CS: Source cache files (you can also do this without purchasing, but it will be locked until you do).
5. Finished downloading the files? Good. Now you can launch CS: Source from the Play Games menu and configure the game settings to your preference.
6. Click the Find Servers button to search for a suitable server to play on. You can change your server preference with the Change Filters button.
7. Once your connected, go get owned!

OK, so I got CS: Source. Which servers do you guys play on?

I've found some server with low pings that are suitable for us Malaysian people to play on. Some are hosted here in Malaysia and some are hosted in Singapore, Hong Kong Etc...

There is no other way of obtaining CS: Source other than through Steam at the moment. If you want a CD, wait for Half-Life 2's retail release which is on NOVEMBER 16.

I will compile all important questions here.

1. I don't have a credit card. Is there any other way I can purchase one of the packages that include CS: Source?
   No. Currently only Mastercard and Visa cardholders are able to purchase through Steam. However, Valve is looking for alternative purchase options for those who don't have a credit card.
   
   
2. I own an original CS: Condition Zero. Am I entitled to the full version of CS: Source since I was able to participate in the BETA?
   No.
   
   
3. I have an ATi Half-Life 2 coupon, can I use it to get one of the three packages?
   Yes. ATi Half-Life 2 coupon holders are entitled to the Bronze package. You can however upgrade your Bronze package to either Silver or Gold by paying the appropriate amount. (Gold: US$40.00, Silver: US$10.00)
   
   
4. How do I redeem the Bronze package with the ATi Coupon?
   Click the Browse Games button at the Steam Play Games menu. Then click the Register a Product I Already Own button at the lower part of the menu. Key in the CD-Key from your ATi coupon and click next. After your CD-Key is verified, you will have the Bronze package.
   
   
5. I already have Half-Life 1 registered to my Steam account, will I get a new CD-Key with the Silver or Gold package so I could keep my old one to play older games?
   No. If you already own Half-Life 1 and planning to purchase Silver or Gold, you are strongly advised to create a new Steam account and purchase it from there. If you purchase using your old account, the new CD-Key will overwrite the old one and you will not be able to recover it.
   
   
6. The bots in CS: Source are too stupid, what can I do to make them aim better?
   Try using the console command "bot_difficulty 3", without the quotes. Value can be anywhere from 0 to 3, Default is 0.
   
   
7. There aren't many maps included with the full release, where can I get more?
   See next post.
   
   
8. The water in de_aztec looks murky and ugly. I want clean water!

Gamzone has a CSS server? how come i've never seen it in the list before? And there is no info about it on Gamezone's website

The water effect patch isn't official. U might wanna backup the original file before u overwrite it. but the new clean water is gorgeous. i doubt u'd wanna revert.
