Yes, milk contains calcium. But milk is also liquid protein that is called acid lactic. So milk is actually acidic! (gastric patients are asked to drink milk, which is also very foolish, I will explain in another post). When you drink too much milk, your body become acidic. But our body cannot tolerate acidic and cannot function well (and will even die) if it gets too acidic. But our body is a very intelligent machine that it will try to correct everything by its own. So when your body becomes too acidic, it starts to drain calcium (alkali) from your bone and teeth to neutralize your blood! Your body has choose to respond to the crisis by ‘borrowing’ calcium from your bone and teeth!

if milk was acidic, wouldn't it taste sour?n i think milk is lactose not lactic acid.

when raw milk is left standing too long,it turns sour, thus the reference to "sour milk"

because it uses the lactic acid enzyme to break down lactose into lactic acid. You can probably find this in your Form 5 chemistry book.

Why drinking milk leak calcium out of your body?

Because I want you to do the investigation yourself (using Google is enough), I will just explain it in a few short sentences. If that drive your curiosity, investigate on it and see if you will still let your mum drink milk.

Skeptical? Investigate yourself.

THE MILK LETTER : A MESSAGE TO MY PATIENTS

It seems that the countries with the highest intake of dairy products are invariably the countries with the most osteoporosis.

For the key to the osteoporosis riddle, don’t look at calcium, look at protein. Consider these two contrasting groups. Eskimos have an exceptionally high protein intake estimated at 25 percent of total calories. They also have a high calcium intake at 2,500 mg/day. Their osteoporosis is among the worst in the world. The other instructive group are the Bantus of South Africa. They have a 12 percent protein diet, mostly p lant protein, and only 200 to 350 mg/day of calcium, about half our women’s intake. The women have virtually no osteoporosis despite bearing six or more children and nursing them for prolonged periods! When African women immigrate to the United States, do they develop osteoporosis? The answer is yes, but not quite are much as Caucasian or Asian women. Thus, there is a genetic difference that is modified by diet.

To answer the obvious question, “Well, where do you get your calcium?” The answer is: “From exactly the same place the cow gets the calcium, from green things that grow in the ground,” mainly from leafy vegetables. After all, elephants and rhinos develop their huge bones (after being weaned) by eating green leafy plants, so do horses. Carnivorous animals also do quite nicely without leafy plants. It seems that all of earth’s mammals do well if they live in harmony with their genetic programming and natural food. Only humans living an affluent life style have rampant osteoporosis..

I knew this a long time ago. It's in a lot of health books.

Read more if you want,

http://www.notmilk.com/rense.html

The fact of the matter is there is an oversupply of milk in the world, and slick PR from the milk industry is what's driving consumption of this useless liquid

The liquid milk you are drinking is pasteurized and homogenized milk. The calcium from this processed milk has poor bio availability. This is gonna poison your body. Drink raw milk instead.

That guy has a hidden agenda.

Not only did he NOT MENTION many important points regarding calcium metabolism, and he got some 'facts' wrong.

It's just like those idiots who say coffee causes dehydration... ignoring all the statistics that point out that coffee is not much more a diuretic (causes someone to pee) than plain water - although technically it is a slight diuretic, it's effect is barely noticeable.

Protein deficiency is alot more serious.... and anything to increase a population's protein consumption should be encouraged.

The glue I used in kindergarten came from tapioca (yam / ubi keladi). Shock Horror!!! Those damn koreans are selling our schoolkids MILK based bubble tea with Yam added to it.

That guy is just like any politician. He played on emotions and used false logic to justify his claims. He speaks with passion and the illusion of authority... but if you put down his points in bullet points, you'll notice he's talking crap.

CAUSE AND EFFECT IS NOT ESTABLISHED

in any of his points.

so drinking milk from dutch lady, etc is not a good source for those seeking calcium? i drink lots of milk a day, not for the calcium though, more for the protein... so is that good or bad for me? hmm.gif

ok first, is it more logical that a politician wants to trick us out of our fear of milk or those mega huge companies whose total salary depends on the very sale fluctuation of milk?

I would say the latter.

2nd, yes I have heard about the fact that coffee causes dehydration but this is only the case for large consumptions-bout 6 to 10 cups, until any effect can really take place. so there always is a truth in a myth no?

protein deficiency-don't need to worry about that with milk-the subject is calcium deficiency. As said, why put your risk on milk when you can get pure, raw, great fiber and protein from vegetables and calcium? well rather than drinking one cup of milk just swallow a calcium pill.(besides other alternatives as well)

glue:pvc and biosordable glue comes from lactic acid. So one size doesn't fit all-your glue is not the world's glue.

Tell me one point in bullet point which is crap.

global warming-human's stupidity and greed.

good for you.but your calcium will go down instead.it's a tradeoff.

as said, people always associate milk with calcium when there are so many more sources.

Milk is considered a good source of calcium. But, it is not confirmed what they mean by 'good source of calcium'. Plenty of PR from the companies but I still enjoy my morning cereals WITH milk. Who cares if it is bad for you? If you really want to stop eating 'bad' food, stop eating most of the food in M'sia as they are crap anyway for your body tongue.gif .

what u said is true

QUOTE
Dawson-Hughes and her co-workers report that only bicarbonate-receiving volunteers had significant reductions in calcium excretion, which indicated a reduction in bone resorption.

When fruits and vegetables are metabolized they add bicarbonate, an alkaline compound, to the body," said Dr. Dawson Hughes. "Our study found that bicarbonate had a favorable effect on bone resorption and calcium excretion. This suggests that increasing the alkali content of the diet may attenuate bone loss in healthy older adults."

but u may not know that
QUOTE
Reacting to the increasing acid levels, the body counters this by bone resorption, a process by which bones are broken down, releasing minerals such as calcium, phosphates, and alkaline (basic) salts into the blood. Bone resorption weakens the bones and increases the risk of fracture.

Well, if you really want calcium, take tofu [bean curd].

Also, everybody seems panaroid about lactic acid. Can anyone answer how much concentration of lactic acid in milk here? If you do smells lactic acid before, it just like our smelly feet. If the concentration is high, we should be able to "sense" that.

Milk being 'acidic' seeping calcium from bones sounds like bullshit. There are far more acidic foods than milk that you put in your body. Don't tell me curry/tomyam is alkaline? Yet so many Malaysians eat those common foods. Are the people who are saying milk is acidic saying if we eat curry we'll get osteoporosis much faster? (im sure curry is a lot more acidic than milk) Seriously that theory doesn't even contain a shred of logic.

However, I agree that one shouldn't rely on milk for their calcium requirement per day. Everything in moderation, etc. Eat lots of leafy greens they have lots of calcium.
