i think no OC and gaming take place...
so i personally suggest athlonII x2 240
even the older Athlon can serve u...

best performance - 720BE
best value for OCer/Gamers - 550BE
best value for no ocer/no gamer shud lies between 250 and 240... but 240 will handle the surfing, torrent or other apps just fine.. u need no high speed proc..
*

ok..

so is d speed for x2 240,250 fast??

n is it cool? i dun wan those will hot hot de..

then wat mobo should i pair wth??

2.8ghz and 3.0ghz respectively.
And yes they do run alot cooler than the previous 7750.

Since you aren't going for gaming, just go with a 780G board.

May I know what is the normal temperature for X4 945 with stock heatsink running at 3.0 GHz at idle?

Is it the stock heat sink fan really loud as a hair blower when the speed reach up to 5000rpm plus?

I am using 955BE with you very same motherboard. If Cool n Quiet features is not turn on (which is default mobo setting), yes the standard heat sink fan will be very noisy (my wife call it vacuum cleaner). Solution, turn on Cool and Quiet features in bios or you may able to do so with Asus AI suite. I prefer bios personally as I do not really need all those extra software. All I need is AMD OverDrive tool to give me all proc, mobo status./ info and tune it up.

Normal temperature without CnQ, around 50ish (and the fan is damn noisy). With CnQ feature On, temperature around 43-46 degree. (no so well ventilated room and no aircond). CnQ will reduce your processor multiplier (like intel speed step) if your PC is idle or it sense that you dont need full blown 3 GHz. As for myself, currently all 4 cores run at 800 MHz... torrenting + reading LYN doesnt need more than 800 MHz right.)

Yeap, I turned on the cool n quiet features and the fan noticeably alot quieter.

Thanks for your input. blush.gif

Depend on type of benchmark but I believe it on par with Core 2 Duo Quad 9550 (RM780).

In some benchmark, sometime it outscore Q9550 and vice versa. Interestingly, it may even beat i7 920 sometime.

Refer to the anand's review,
2 points to highlight in comparison to i7 920,

Clock to clock, i7 pwn Phenom II 955, including gaming performance.
Secondly, most of the i7 920 D0 can run at 4.5-4.7GHz (with watercooling) or 4.2GHz (with aircooling). So, it can NEVER beat 920. Period.

The only advantage of Phenom II is price.
You pay what you get.

P/S If you are smart shopper, you can get second-hand i7 920 at RM800-850 at garage sales. wink.gif

If you compare Hz to Hz, of course i7 will beat phenom no matter what. So what? My statement on previous post was base on that graph. I am not saying 955 can beat i920 generally. That is why I attach URL sweat.gif

Hz can't feed your child or spouse. Money does. Not everyone of us is anak dato' or tan sri or towkay or even make 10k per month. In this hard economic climate, of course, performance/price play important factor.

RM1100+ of i7 920 obviously a bit out of reach for majority of normal user (not freaking enthusiast who overclock their system to the moon). Some more, you have to take into account how expensive a good i7 mobo right. If money is not a factor, honestly I will go for i7 solution. No doubt about it.

If you want to talk about overclock, eat this one : http://www.tomshardware.com/news/AMD-Pheno...ocked,7747.html whistling.gif

2 things,
Firstly, i7 920 doesn't cost RM1100+. I got mine at RM1030. I said, smart shoppers can buy an i7 920 D0 at RM800-850 at garage sales.
Secondly, you don't really need expensive board. Intel DX58SO is good enough.

Talking about the Phenom II at 7GHz? Nah, it's irrelevant until you have money + exotic cooling device.
How many of Phenom II users can run their processors @ 7GHz? How many i7 920 D0 users can run their processors at 4.5GHz & more?
So, obviously you have no idea what you have just spewed.

Just in case you have short memory, let me remind you of what you said.
See how you contradict yourself.

Last but not least, you don't need the title of dato or tan sri to get your children or spouse fed.
Don't upgrade if you have financial difficulties. Of course, forget about buying the "7GHz" rated processor & the exotic device when you have no money to feed your children & spouse.

Added on August 8, 2009, 4:38 amJust a simple calculation,
if the performance of i7 920 @ 2.67GHz is equivalent to AMD PhenomII @ 3.2GHz.

What is the equivalent speed of AMD PhenomII if the i7 920 runs at 4.5GHz?

You get what you pay.

Seem an i7 920 user here already angry lol.

Ok ok, let me rephrase myself since you love to attack that bold sentence.

According to that anandtech URL, in fallout game benchmark at medium setting with default clock and all stock... phenom which you can buy at RM680 could beat i7 920 which you can buy at RM1030 (or if you smart enough you can get it at 800-900 at LYN garage sale yada yada).

I am not bias or amd fanboy. One of my rig is intel. Even the URL state that i7 beat phenom 955 at crysis game. It's all there. I just parapharase it..perhaps not a good one. Let change 'sometime' into 'in rare occasion and situation where everything is at factory clock speed' allright?

My previous 2x post main idea is : 955 is about 'on par' with q9550 processor. That 7 GHz thingy is just a tidbit lol.

"Why so serious" said Joker..(not me XD)

Do I sound worked up?
I was just pointed out some misconceptions of your statement.

I am neither Intel nor AMD fanboy. I have owned way too many Intel & AMD processors in the past 20 years.
As far as performance is concerned, Intel still owns the crown. Period.
