ever since Radeon HD 3000, AMD has not been competing for the title of most powerful *insert wadever here*... instead they concentrate on the mainstream and performance users... considering market proportion, that is actually a good strategy...

Radeon HD 4000 is 1 example... and so far, the performance of Phenom II also looks promising... let's hope the price is good...

tis is wat i fear for, the limitations of SB600 on OCing the new phenom II... sad.gif

meaning i have to opt for a new mobo to get the 4GHz mark n tis involves more $$$ rclxub.gif

Just a disclaimer, excruciatingly slow RAM. You could run 1066-5-5-5-15 (or even 4-4-4-12) on the platform. They're using 800-6-6-6-18, which is like registered DDR2 used in servers.

Still compared to Q9300 and Q9400 but no comparison with Q9450 and Q9550. Somehow I think Phenom II X4 940 prices will be around Q9400 level (as predicted earlier). wink.gif

The graphs are rather misleading, please notice the delta between Q9300 and Q9400, especially the HD video encoding.. Again the scaling used on this graph is different, but you can calculate yourself (like I did the other earlier graph from Expreview) the scores with known results. icon_rolleyes.gif

yep, the graph is misleading, and somehow the vantage cpu score ain't impress me.

but as we know, vantage ain't everything (for example : 9600GSO vs 4670)

we need to see real review on games blush.gif

Mind you, that phenom II uses 3870x2 >.> and your first site states that it shows similar performance to a 3.6GHZ q6600 with Radeon HD4870. Performance for clock ratio is awesome.

That's because the GPU score influence the total score. Didn't you notice the 3GHz Q6600 got higher due to higher GPU score? Another Q6600 @ 3.6GHz here http://service.futuremark.com/resultCompar...reResultType=19 has higher score due to higher GPU score (using HD3870x2 also) wink.gif

Anyway, I was looking at clock to clock comparison (the CPU score), which is why I put up the Q9450 @ stock and Q6600 @ 3GHz. flex.gif

Anyway... here's an interesting score..

Q9400 @ stock with HD3870x2 (similar GPU score) http://service.futuremark.com/resultCompar...reResultType=19 brows.gif

This graph isn't impressive at all, I find it rather sad actually. Phenom 2 940@3Ghz outperforms Q9400@2.66Ghz by 5-10%? Ok, price had better be good, Lynnfield arrives around the same time or slightly later.

But AM3 proc cannot install in AM2 mobo. AM2 proc install in AM3 will be bottlenecked. Additional Information needed. (except from wikipedia).
