QUOTE(qedx @ Apr 8 2009, 01:57 AM)
if i know i'm going to be doing a lot of root-y stuff i just do sudo bash. not quite sure if there's any downside to it vs su but i haven't run into any so far.
*

QUOTE(Cannonfodder @ Apr 9 2009, 10:22 PM)
Use 'sudo su' if you want to keep root access in BASH.
*

QUOTE(qedx @ Apr 13 2009, 09:46 AM)
"sudo bash" lets me use my aliases. what's the difference between that and "sudo su"?
*

Why do you all try #visudo command and see what is inside?

just got Ubuntu installed, loving it!
aside from its sound driver problems, its amazing.

Graphic effects blows even OS X's with compiz fusion and other addons installed.

bye bye windows

Tested Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mandriva, Fedora and Red Hat 9 , Mepis... all are good. But still stick to openSUSE since it's predecessor Suse Linux Pro 9.1, 9.2, 9.3 hinggalah ke current 11.1, I love this Suse wub.gif

Linux Mint is the best distro I can think of for noobies. The best thing is that it guides you through installation for dual-booting with Windows and also (unlike Ubuntu) contains all the necessary drivers you will need setting it up.

No more hunting around for individual drivers.

LOL. Linux mint is ubuntu remaster. There are so many ubuntu remaster out there. Mint have good comunity support. However i prefered super OS with new idea 'portable linux software'.

I feel opensuse more like windows than linux. program crash or hang will bring opensuse down.

I tried a lot of distros before, Ubuntu, Fedora, DSL, Puppy, Sugar, Mint, and my favourite is Fedora 11.

Ubuntu is too... erm... flashy? Although the CLI is still there and all, I don't like the way its marketed, like it's a "dumbed down linux for everyone" kind of thing.

DSL is awesome, just burn or make it bootable on a small flash drive (fits on a 64MB!) and its an awesome recovery tool.

Sugar is experimental, actually for the OLPC program. Very interesting though.
