Everyone was laughing at how bad the movie was in GSC 1utama. They were laughing at scenes which were supposed to be suspenseful. Some obnoxious teenagers were even playing WALL-E ringtones during the movie. Maybe this played a (small, I think) role in my lack of enjoyment. I'll watch it again when the dvd comes out.

Its been long since evil dead that i had a laugh watching horror in the cinema. Its Raimi at his best since Evil Dead (army of Darkness). and as to almost all raimi's horror flicks, the ending is quite not expected.

Damn, it seems I'm the only one here who thinks this is an extremely lightweight, incompetent horror-comedy flick. Am I really alone on top of Mt. Good Taste here?

Nah I can have my fun with fun horror movies too. I like Ghostbusters, The Frighteners, Gremlins, Tremors, Critters, Planet Terror, even Slither. This just did not work for me. Oh well I'm out of here... too lonely in here. laugh.gif

But all these things you people are saying really make me curious if I saw a different movie or if I was somehow simply out of the element. I'll watch it again once the dvd is out.

I can't remember Ghostbusters or Frighteners intending to scare. I mean, sure the subject matter was about the undead but the way it was handled was akin to taking a ride at a theme park.

Raimi is more in-your-face.

It's fine even if it doesnt scare, as long as it is fun and funny. When it isnt fun, naturally I find something to fall back on, something to at least pull it up a bit, and DMTH didnt have any. Not the scares or frights, not the plot (which was rather ridiculously bad, but I never bothered to mention it since its never integral in a movie like this), not the acting, not the CGI effects (though the makeup was alright). The humour is by far the best thing about DMTH, and there were a few really laugh-out-loud moments to be had, it's a shame there wasn't enough.

One reason I keep complaining about how un-scary it is is because I keep reading about how scary it is.

well, there were a number of ewww moments as expected, and its no Army of Darkness but I thought it was a great ride! haha. Raimi is back in his element and it shows. He should stick to these kinds of films and stay away from those horrible Spider-Man fluff.

I saw saw Evil Dead II. Now this is what I'm taking about! The first was probably a bit more serious than what I expected; this was prefect! Stubborn, persistent decapitated heads that wont let go. Mocking, walking severed hand. None of that uninspired watered down PG-13 puke crap we (or at least I...) got served in DMTH. Plus here they are drawn out sequences instead of just scenes lasting all of 3 seconds each. A gloriously fun and camp trip. And after that ending I dont have any choice other than to watch Army of Darkness right?

oh and I was right! Practical effects > CGI in movies like this. That talking goat never looked anywhere as good as that reindeer.

So to all those who said I'm pretentious and cant enjoy campy horror flicks, this is for you

Edit:

also saw Army of Darkness last night. Now I know why they didnt keep the Evil Dead name, because this is not Evil Dead, it's a parody of Evil Dead. Waaay at the end of the comedy spectrum, this doesnt even attempt to be anything near a horror movie. But its still very fun and hilarious. Cant top Evil Dead II of course.

man... totally love this film, its like Evil Dead + The Exorcist, I'd say Raimi should really concentrate on doing this kinda films instead of those shitty Spidey sequels...
