price not cheap also, at least RM 2K++

for tis price range still hv other option, which they can be auditioned.

if purchase a svs sub then turn out not my liking, then wasted loh..
hearth pain at least few mths...
hehe...

True, true..

But then again, where can u find spkrs tat sound gud n cheap?? Especially in Malaysia..
For 2k, u ll be gettin the entry level '10inchers' only n ya its an uphill battle to try sumtin 'unleard' of.. tat argument is valid.

On a wasted purchase if u dont like an svs.. I dare say if u were to put up one for sale now at 2k, there would be takers n I hv yet to see a SvS sub sold becos owner dont find it 'suitable' (mind you tis is gud for HT, musical subs - u r better off lukin elsewhere..) I know of one chap who didnt quite like it as a stereo pair for classical music n several who was givin up de hobby n yes oso de irrevereble upgraditis sale to a bigger meaner SvS sub..

But for me n Bro Poison arrow, we both bought it 'blind'(so to speak..).. actin only on 'blind' faith of other more 'learned' members of the fraternity tat kept on sayin how gud it was...

N we havent looked back.. kekeke cool2.gif

Eh bro,

I tot u went wif a velodyne??

Yes, indeed I did. It's a CHT-12R. I went and auditioned my friend's SPL-1200R. CHT-12R is miles behind. Aint fair to compare it in this way. I know.

I am upgrading my 7mths+ old CHT-12R to SVS since I have heard and read too many good reviews about it. Here's one of the review :

http://www.hometheatersound.com/equipment/svs_pc12_plus.htm

Even UK Mag also gave excellent review (very rare for US products). I chat with my friend (as he is very knowledgable in this since he has auditioned many subwoofers including F113). He told me that his SPL-1200R would be no match to PC-12Plus. Apart from these factors, I am quite curious about its ability to go sub-sonic (20Hz and below) since not many (or none) mid-range priced sub can do it.

Once it is here by mid next week, I shall do a thorough review, including a comparison between CHT-12R (definitely 'squashes' Velo with ease) and SPL-1200R.

Hi..

No offence to Velodyne lovers but when it(svs) first came out, there were alrdy fans quotin how gud it was compared to Velodynes n Paradigms of de same caliber.. of cos initially u could say it was jus fanboys blowin their horn but if more n more were made 'converts' .. there has to be sumtin goin for it..

If u can afford it, de ultra would be de ultimate-once-in-a-purchase sub.. u prbbly would not upgrade it again until it konks or if u give up de hobby.. I only know of ultra upgraders is when they add another.. but ya real life dictates us to look for wat we can afford n like me ( n dare I say similarly like you..) a midrange plus is plenty gud alrdy..

Anyway.. gud choice n lookin forward to ur detailed review..

hmmm...

deep bass is good, how does it compare wif velodyne CHT-12R ?
the deep bass of velodyne CHT-12R is quite good.

but another thing is tat hows the "control" of svs?
sometime big sub n deep bass is easily out of control.
even deep bass, but sound muddy and not accurate also.

or should i say damping.

damping do play an important role and beside than that need to caliber. Now who has a SPL meter?

Uhm..

Both is kick ass la.. de bins hv a smaller footprint n is lighter but sum ppl cant fathom a spkr tat luks like tat..

Its all in de preference, really..

As for me, I wanted a 'bin' but when I wanted to order, svs stopped shippin 'bins' overseas so I had to choose a box or get sumtin else.. n I chose de box - I tot wat de heck, its still an SvS .. back then shippin for bins was a tad cheaper cos of its weight but they cost de same .. if not mistaken..

Ultras are expensive for me but of cos if u r alrdy lukin at REL n M & K then its still cheaper than those models and if u get de premium veneers , it looks really really gud too .. o ya n if its for HT use, then.. well as they say de rest is history..

Cheers

Dirtrun,

That's one of the main reason I tk the plunge and ordered it. I read that even the SPL-1200R/Ultra is no match to PC-12Plus. I am going to find it out on next Saturday. I did a check on the PC-12plus and PC-13Ultra graph. It is a tall order to acheive such a good output.

I wonder one of my friend still have the Paradigm Servo 15 for me to do a shootout. My SPL meter is ready. MPV on standby. Acoustic foams on the way. Cable and cord also standing by. Money on standby to pay hefty tax. Now, the long wait til next Thur/Fri for the arrival.

Ya Bro HTkaki,

Welcome to de boom boom club.. rclxms.gif

I guess it would be really interestin as well as an eye opener to read ur experienced( I mean .. u being in tis line n all..) n knowledgeable review..

Nid to rant a bit .. de new cylinder subs dont look much different than de older generations .. well at least there is no appreciable difference tat I can see but de newer box dont luk gud IMO.. I m not saying tis jus becos I hv de older model but de hidden down firing design looks way sturdier.. more solid(more macho as an mcp would say..) if u prefer than d current front firin design wif grill n all but I do notice tat there is no cheaper wrapped matt black model anymore n its all premium veneers now .. o well dats progress for u..

Cheers

Dirtrun,

Yeah, looking forward to lay my hands on it. Still 5 days to go.

Anyway, I might be reserving my review on this thread only and not on 'Home Entertainment' as a newbie when near 'berserk' with few members' posting and my supposingly gathering. LOL....

I'd a quite lenghty chat wt mpyw at his workplace yesterday. Even with the box unit, he is afraid of WAF as it is one gigantic box.

Current Velo owners and soon-to-be SVS owners:

Boss, your next sub after NSD have to be 12Plus or 13Ultra.
