Dear all,

I would like to share some tips with you all.
Initially i thought that sulcata like to dig hole as bed to sleep, but now i found out something.
The sulcata dig hole is to avoid light whiel sleeping.

This prove because itoday i put a shelter into my sulcata house, it craw into the shelter to sleep. I tried to switch the location of shelter, same result.

so, for tortoise lovers, please put a shelter for your tortoise if you on the lights for long time in a day.

Please advice if better idea on taking care tortoise.

Thank you.

Normally what i'd do is i leave my sulcata out on a balcony to sunbathe, drink, eat from morning till evening, when i get home, i just leave it back into it's tank inside so it can keep warm.

My adult star just leave her outside with a wooden shelter

so, do you mean you will leave your adult star outside all the time?
what if night rain?, will the star feel cold although dry?

Second, is it mean that when the sulcata big enough, we can place it outside?
i'm quite confuse.
Cause now i have to light bulb, 1 is normal light to keep the tank hot, another is UVB 10.0 light. i on the light alternatively every half day.
Are the way i did correct or wrong?
please advice...
Thanks...

Ofcourse you should, everything animal or plant would die if it doesn't have atleast a teeny bit of moisture

My adult star can stand the night rain and cold, she just gets all her heat back in the morning  smile.gif , Sulcata's are the 3rd largest species of tortoises in the world.. so.. ofcourse you can leave them outside when their adults, even my sulcata is walking around in the morning and afternoons nowadays

Hie billyer,

All my torts are feeding on Timothy Hays before I opt for Orchard Grass (the stem is softer). I'll cut the hays into small pieces, then pour water on them so the hays are wet. For the first try, you should mix in something that they like to eat into the hays, eg. green mustard(sawi), tortoise pellets, mushroom, fruits or calcium powder.

Hope this helps.

Hopefully ok.
Thank you bro...

Wow.. budblely... nice ASTs
What are you feeding them? Feeder fish? Pellets?
Any water filter inside it? The water will easily gets oily and dirty if you are feeding them feeder fish.

Billyer, do post the photos. I would like to get a pair of sulcata too, but not anytime soon, since now I've star, cherry and impressa. Taking photos for sulcata from time to time is helpful if u wanna track their growth rate. I read that sulcata grows very fast.

hi bro, do they love orchard grass more than timothy ?
i am feeding timothy now..they quite like it but am thinking switch with orchard grass on and off so they dont get bored

the other day i bought another pack of timoth hay from MV pets wonderland..they are selling it cheaper but after i open the pack only realised their hay is dryer and harder doh.gif
luckily they still eat but i have to cut into smaller pieaces sweat.gif
