I dont agree with your above statement !! They are scavenger in nature BUT animals in wild do not live as long due to eating non-fresh food ( full of nasty stuff )

max-oasism - I thought you trying to convince your fren that feeding street rats to his snake is no good and now you commenting that we do not need to feed fresh food to our other pets ie monitor lizard in this case

"no need to feed them everyday one and no need to feed them with fresh food if i am not mistaken."

well in nature i know that they are scavenging creature thats why i said 'if i am not mistaken', which also means i am doubt about feed them with not fresh food in captive caring.

well i might be need to rephrase it, i didnt mean that way. well, snake are not scavenging but monitor are, so that makes me have the idea but not the suggestion.

i rephrase the statement, sorry dont know it will confuse people. and thanks sam for reminding... blush.gif

for what i read, they should have the strong saliva to break down the food if i am not mistaken.

anyway, its not suggestion.

If some entity can import them in from say US or ......etc one can always apply for premise / permit to keep !!!

Or just go into hutan and find one , try catch and keep it ( but keep very quiet about it ) they are local sp after all

But you do know that the Dumeril's will lose the bright orange colour around the head as it get bigger !!! Dont you

i just want to share some varanids species with u guys, as currently i dun keep monitors anymore due to work commitment n also legal issues.

those picture i posted are all taken from the net. Just to share. N also love to listen to some monitor keepers experience on certain species...

Last time I kept Blue magic, prasinus, savana, salvator and indicus. Some of them wildcaught, some of them bought from sellers. They are fun to watch. Especially when they feed, I like monitors because they are like living dinosaurs...in their movement, behavior n appearance....
