Clooney's Lost girl

The new leading lady for MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS is probably the lowest-profile member of the production. You gotta give credit to George Clooney -- the guy knows how to assemble a cast.

Rebecca Mader, perhaps best known for being a somewhat irritating addition to the cast of TV's "LOST" last season, has joined the Clooney-topped satire. Besides his chiseled chin, the project already features Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges and "Hey, it's that guy" actor Stephen Lang (TOMBSTONE, BAND OF THE HAND).

The movie is based on Jon Ronson's book about the US military's secret soldiers trained to (supposedly) walk through walls, become invisible, read minds and kill telepathically. The adaptation is set in Iraq and centers on a reporter (McGregor) who inadvertently finds a big story in a former psychic soldier (Clooney) reactivated after 9/11.

GOATS (title change still expected) is directed by Clooney's producing partner Grant Heslov, who you almost certainly know better as Faisil from TRUE LIES.

Extra Tidbit: Mader had a role in the unaired pilot for a MR. & MRS. SMITH television series.

Rebecca Mader, known to most of us as "that annoying scheming redhead who beat the crap out of Juliette on Lost," will add George Clooney to the list of men she's conquered on screen. Well, right now the list is just Daniel Faraday on Lost, but at least George will be in good company!

Mader will play Clooney's wife in Men Who Stare At Goats, a movie that isn't actually a comedy, as you might suspect, but a thriller set in Iraq. Ewan McGregor plays a reporter who meets Clooney's character, a former "psychic soldier" for the U.S. Military. The Hollywood Reporter says Mader, of course, will play Clooney's wife-- because there are no women doing anything interesting in Iraq, of course!

Either way, I like Mader, despite her maddening character on Lost, and you've got to be jealous of her for tying the fictional knot with Clooney.

Mustache-rocking George Clooney buttons up his army outfit as he heads to the set of his new movie, Men Who Stare at Goats, in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday.

The movie is based on a 2004 book about alleged U.S. military efforts to develop paranormal powers for American soldiers. Clooney, 47, plays a U.S. soldier who fights the enemy using ancient Chinese mind techniques. Co-stars Ewan McGregor and Kevin Spacey also will be filming in the central Puerto Rican town of Comerio.
