I don't think its overpriced. Its suppose to be a replacement for Naza Citra which goes for between 76k~84k just a month ago. Due to the arrival of Rondo, Citra is now 68~76k and Rondo takes over the price of 84,888 and 88,888 for its two model.
So its not overpriced at all. In fact, you see a better version of Citra with an original price. Compared to a 1.6 (M) Grand Livina that costs 84k, you get a Rondo 2.0 (A) DOHC CVVT engine. I think its a very competitive price.
As for New York taxi cab, I can say that since this model is 2 years old in the States, I think its safe to say its a good model that they bring into Malaysia. What I know is that this engine is completely different from Citra, in fact some says it takes the same platform as Kia Optima.
I hate to say this, but the reviewer put way too much sugar and being very biased into his review.
Things like he says "Compared to the old Citra, this is leaps and bounds better" He even said that the dashboard is "very modern " and has "European style air cond vents"...whats so special about these? It's just slightly different than even MYVI's aircond vents, mind you, and it's all black compared to Grand Livina's wooden dashboard trimmings.
I haven't seen this unit yet, but I've tried the old CITRA and it's really cramp for a 2.0L class MPV.

Yea, Grand Livina has wooden dashboard trimmings, but thats only on its premium model that cost 97k. The really dissapointing part about this Rondo is that its interior its NOT leather or even half leather. Its somewhat fabric, which is in both EX and EXS model. The difference between EX and EXS is the sunroof bar, the 16" rim, audio control steering and aircond sensor. For a difference of $4k, I don't think the EXS has anything to shout about.
However, looking at the whole body size of the car, its bigger than Citra and Sportage (slightly). Interior wise, someone told me Grand Livina has a smaller cabin size compared to Citra, especially the 2nd row (behind driver).
I agree that the dashboard is nothing to shout about. The guy merely saying it for the sake of saying something. I personally don't like the roundish aircond vent, but compared to Citra that doesn't have aircond in the 2nd/3rd row, this one does.
Lastly, I think Rondo is in the same league as Citra, which should be Mini MPV. So to be exact, the car can just fit around 5 adults and 2 children.
This morning I went to Naza showroom in Melaka and saw the new models. They told me its launched today starting 10am. I was pleasantly surprised to be among the earliest to know about it. Immediately after that I called Naza johor to inquire more about it and I knew I have to test drive this car. This weekend Im coming down to JB branch to try out this baby. First time driven an MPV, before this Kelisa only.
Anyway, if I like the car, will definitely book one on the spot. So far they only have 50 available stock for the peninsular region, not including 2 models for each major branch in the states. Meaning this model not available in any car agents other than naza branch. If the model is having a good run, you might expect to see waiting list of 1 month to 3 month. Though I think Naza wont have too much problems with availability compared to more common brands like Nissan Grand Livina.
I think some guys are sitting in front of a keyboard and just saying ‘cheap interior’ but don’t have a clue what they actually mean. The media guy in the YouTube video drives the actual vehicle and says he really likes the interior. I suggest you go to the showroom and check:
a) Materials b) Interior gap fit and finish c) Exterior gap fit and finish (bumper to body, hood gaps, uniformity) d) Doors (triple contact rubber seals) e) Flat floor carpet (no hills and valleys, bumps) f) Paint quality - no drip marks, glossy in all the right areas g) Tricot headliner
Then only form your own opinion but be sure to compare with Nissan Livina, Toyota Avanza and then some higher priced units like the Toyota Innova, Wish and Honda Stream. Some of the comments on the interior and quality here seem like very emotional assumptions.
Here are the fuel consumption specs for a GASOLINE powered, AUTOMATIC Rondo, from the Kia UK website.
