Hello. Recently i tried to install pkg-config on my Xubuntu but the installation fail bcoz error occur. Did anybody knows how to install pkg-config in proper way so i can get myself away from error.

i don't know what is pkg-config but if you want to install packages, you can use aptitude. That is much easier.

If you run from xubuntu, I think you will get a GUI to manage your packages.

pkg-config is usually used by libs so that compiler and linkers can find the exact version or path of library needed when using automake.

To install: apt-get install pkg-config

Do you mind share with us the error?

Still cant install using "apt-get install pkg-config"

Error : "Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/ lock - open (13 permission denied)"
Error : "Unable to lock the adminstration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?"


and also i tried ./configure
make
make install
and fail also

did i have to login using "root" to install something?

Thx helping me abubin and oshiri. My problem solve. I login as "root" then i try to install pkg-config and successfully without error.
