My three years old Package Bell notebook got dead boot-up problem. I tried to replace with a new motherboard battery myself, unfortunately the battery mounting came off with I pulled out the old battery. Close examination on its solder pads and legs indicated some rusty copper accumulated on the leg. One pad is almost bare with a tiny soldering leftover.

Brought my notebook to Law Yat 2nd floor and asking around for repairing service two days ago. Three repair shops, one of them is ran by Pakistanists, they all said it is impossible to remount the battery mounting under such a bad condition.

Finally I found a repair shop, located at opposite Vital computer shop with this name "Komputown Sales & Service". A friendly shop attendant led me to a Burmese national technician. He also concluded that no way to rescue my notebook.

I asked him try to repair and promised to pay him labor cost even he failed to rescue my notebook. His was painstakingly in spending around 30 minutes to remount battery mounting. He charged me RM30 only after successfully remounted the mounting.

I brought PCB home and assembled it back with a new battery, my notebook was alive again!!! And today I decide to upgrade RAM to 768MB max from 512MB and this upgrading shall at least extend its useful life to another one year.

I only spent RM140 for repair and RAM upgrade instead of reluctantly forking out RM 1799 to 1899 for Asus netbook Eee 1000.

Yahoo! to Komputown Sales & Service again.

Avoid a notebook repair shop in Taman Connaught Cheras, they quoted me a whooping RM580 for troubleshooting and repair works.

NO...If paying RM580 for troubleshooting and repair works, I might well buy a new low-end notebook to replace 3 years plus antique machine. It turns out boot-up problem is due to motherboard depleted battery.

I think owner is better to stay in the workshop to follow up with technician, otherwise they may charge you for standard PCB repair pricing which is RM350 onwards.
