Typing this in Chrome right now. Not as speedy as I'd like it to be at page loads but then again that's in comparison to my choice main browser Firefox which has a nifty add-on charged with connections/network settings' duties. Kinda early I guess at this stage if we're hoping to see similar add-ons for Chrome. But definitely faster than Safari for Windows and almost equal to Opera which is good signs indeed. I think I can get used to this menu bar-less looks but I think this won't be a permanent feature should more features be added later on that may require a compromise. Tbh this is probably the 1st web browser that did not irk me enough for a quick demand for skins, the default looks that good for me.

Maybe Google have a winner here we'll see..

Nothing wrong with having multiple browsers my friend. On some aspects it's good to help with sorting out certain unfamiliar sites and pages so that you can report on compatibilities and so forth. Not to mention that there's still governments' websites globally that'll only load on IE and so forth.

They gotta change the installer's behavior though. I don't like the fact that it sets to C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data as the program folder without prompting you at that. It's a good idea maybe for it to integrate well with the uninstaller (so that it'll remove everything at once probably) but a warning would be nice.

Well, google can try. I am not going to use it. Firefox has loads of add ons. Even though this is free, I am seeing as another big company trying to get people use their products. I am now putting this chrome on the same level as IE. Sorry, thats just me.

Chrome is definitely much faster than IE7/8, I think it might be faster than Firefox also.

The isolated tab memory thingie seems more stable, but uses more memory.

And it really really needs extensions...

Well I am trying chrome now and this is what I think
1 - Installer
Massive fail. I hate installer that does not install the software, but instead download it THEN install. I mean look at FF, Opera and IE7's installer. They are standalone, meaning that even if the PC is not connected to the internet, it can be installed

2 - GUI and layout
Awesome. I love how they designed it. Looks uncluttered like IE, altho I prefer IE8 more as it has more options. Too much option are lacking for power users. But I forsee it's a good layout for average PC user who dunno shit about changing options
Attached Image

3 - Status Bar
It will only show when you highlight something. I prefer a permanent one. KTHNXBAI

4 - rendering speed
Not much difference from IE8/FF3. BUT it lags really badly rendering Planet-f1, an image and javascript heavy site that I usually use to benchmark browsers. Opera just flew in rendering it, beating Chrome by 75%. The same can be said with Wikipedia with Opera beating it by 35% and IE rendering it faster by just 5%.
Attached Image

5 - Seperate Process
It's good for 4~5 tabs, but honestly if you're opening 30? and as the memory is not shared, I forsee massive memory usage problem. Not to mention if one tab hangs, trying to lock down on which is the culprit CAN be annoying
Attached Image

6 - Acid3 Test
78/100. As expected it fails Acid3 by a considerable margin compared to other browsers (Opera and Safari are the only ones that managed 100% and FF3 is around 80++)

7 - CSS
Amazingly it cannot show this correctly compared to IE and FF which both correctly aligned the text
Chrome:

IE/FF3:

All in all it's a good browser, but I'm still not convinced it can beat the addon friendly firefox or the massive userbase of IE. Not to mention it still lagging behind Opera.

This seems to make more sense to me, theres no point for the status bar to take up space when its not showing anything.

Dunno wor, Planet F1 loaded fastest on Chrome for me, it didn't even finish loading in opera...

The idea apparently is that it takes up more memory initially, then each subsequent tab takes up less memory, and when the tab is closed, ALL the memory is given back to the OS. This is to prevent memory leaks (unlike a certain other flaming canine browser whistling.gif ). And the fact that memory is not shared means that if you open 20+ tabs and 1 crashes, the other tabs won't go down with it.

Lol, like I said I am a power user and I'm too used to having a bar at the bottom that gives me quick stats

connections perhaps? I still can load Planet-f1 faster on opera here no matter how much I try.

yeah I know, I don't use the fox for browsing either, just for comparison on other browsers or if I need to design a website so I need to know if it's compatible. But then again, Opera and Safari don't suffer the memory leak even tho it don't use that kind of system either whistling.gif whistling.gif

But then again it's because I am used to using all kinds of browsers. I will state once again, this browser is good for first time users. for power users, they will certainly look elsewhere first
