QUOTE
Finally after 10 hours in total of time spent at PC Fair, Lowyat Plaza and Digital Mall, I've purchased the Asus EEE PC 1000H

user posted image

Main reasons :

- Stiffer and stonger hinge
- 6 cell battery
- wireless N

Got it from Evernew at Digital Mall for Rm2030 with 2GB ram upgrade.
Be forewarned, Evernew has bad customer service. Take the effort to RMA yourself at Asus if you have any problems.

Below is a list of pros and cons for both. Users of both msi wind and 1000h help me add to the list?

MSI Wind

- Wobbly/weak hinge
- Lousy speakers
- Warranty Issue (not applicable for Media Forte units)
- 3 cell battery (but assuming a 6 cell battery is RM300 when it arrives, RM1999 can get u 1 msi wind with 3 cell + 1 6 cell)
- No wireless N
- Vibration (report by Jinaun)

+ Smaller
+ Ligther
+ Buy 1GB ram only
+ OSX/Leopard compatibility high
+ Looks nicer

Asus EEE PC 1000H

- Larger
- Heavier
- Flexing keyboard
- Run slightly hotter
- Buy 2GB ram
- Stiff keypad buttons
- OSX compatibility still low

+ 6 cell battery
+ Stiffer/stronger hinge
+ Dolby Speakers
+ Wireless N
+ Multi touch keypad

those who buy msi wind/acer aspire one are 1st time umpc owners...they have little idea of what makes a umpc good...eventually they will want to upgrade due to their machine's shortcomings.

in short, 1000H = perfect / msi wind = imperfect

vibration prone on the WIND.. i highly suspect the HDD coz its more to the right side of the keyboard and under it is the hdd

//edit//

the demo unit that i tested have this vibration issue. perhaps other units would not have???

how strong is the vibration? well.... it depends on individual.. i suggest that you get the feeling first on an actual unit whether there is vibration or not

//update//

i got to know some of my frens who bought the wind.. there is no such vibration at all..according to them.. so most likely its that particular demo unit that have the issue

Asus very good name in motherboards, so you can imagine the quality of their eeepc.

Msi?

I know most people hardly buy msi motherboards.

Its like buying a Honda and a Mitsuoko car

Well actually MSI is very popular in the other countries. Reviews and videos are concentrated to this product. However, come to think of it, I think ASUS 1000H has the upperhand here. Price however is the only problem.

Actually I pick ASUS is because of the battery lifetime and the after sales service from their warranty. ASUS is more establish here in KL. Anyway, it doesn't matter already because both product is excellent. Just get one that satisfies your expectations.

Wind is the first UMPC from MSI. They are the new comer to the UMPC scene. Of course with sequential product, they will improve after getting feedbacks from users and after all the trial and error. It seems they are resting on their laurel as other new models are slow in coming.

Asus 1000h is a product after 701, 900 and 901. After every model, they improve it by leaps and bounds. So the 1000h has an advantage there.

There are now many complains about Acer Aspire one. Then next product should be better. The same goes to Dell E or Hp mininote.

Just my 2 cent.

One thing about 1000 series is .. I don't think you could consider it as UMPC already. I went to Digital Mall this afternoon and found few units of these Acer Aspire One and 700/900/1000 .. (but not the Wind) .. and found out that the 1000 series is too big and too heavy to be considered as UMPC.

Very subjective. Give some substantial points on why you think the 1000H is perfect while msi wind is imperfect? For example, mac osx users who want a netbook that can run osx, the msi wind is nearer to perfect than the 1000H. So why is the 1000h is nearer to perfect for you?

Thanks for the input. Does the wind get hot after long time of use?

Very hard to say. MSI Wind getting pretty good reviews overseas, and demand is high too overseas.

Wind Black Linux 1GB can get around RM1580, 2GB add another RM40-60
1000H can get around RM1960, 2GB add another RM70, return original 1GB

for Wind, 6 cell battery est around RM300+, so it'll put it around the same price as 1000H as it has 6 cell, but with wind, u'll get 3 cell + 6 cell, so you have the option to travel light for short usages, or heavy for long usages

Frankly speaking the Asus does have better build quality, but MSI has better looks and smaller size. I heard 1000h runs hotter as compared to Wind, but the Wind have wobbly hinge. Hard decision sad.gif

The 1000H is categorized as netbook, not really UMPC. Its quite blurry, but i dont think those two category are same =.=

The hinge isn't lose, rather its tightness isnt that good. It still has some play, so when u open or close it or tap it abit, it'll shake for a short while.

That isnt the scary part. The scary part is how small the hinge is. The hinge is the weakest part of the laptop, so whether it'll crack or not in the future is uncertain. The 1000H one is much more beefier, and the tightness is better.

Yes yes, the Wind definitely have better ventilation if the surface temperature is of any indication. This is according to the reviews on the internet.

lolx ... i think its the same as the Wind also la ... the Wind also looks very bland but then the Love edition at least the MSI is place on the upper side of the laptop ...

i dont really like brands which place their laptop branding (logo) on the center of the laptop ... looks very .... "Normal" ... but EEE and acer place on the sides so look better =)
