it depends on your urgency of the usage of the internet.
if not that urgent, is good to wait for the wimax as it suppose to be better than the current wireless connection (hopefully ).

As said by kwtungmy. It depends on you. We don't have any information regarding wiMax as in their pricing and coverage area. If you aren't in a hurry you can wait and see

i am investigating to use the Celcom Broadband, HSPDA? anybody used this before and how's the speed/signal?

This Celcom broadband is only for one computer as it connects to USB. Today i found a VigSys VR20 Wireless Data Gateway. With this device I can use the Celcom SIM card and I have a wireless system, i.e. more than one computer can log on.

Anyone experienced in such a setup? and how's the performance?

This depends where you are .. some areas are good and some areas are not. Celcom in KL city centre probably sucks big time ... you could connect but then you could not surf at all or the speed is like equivalent or slower than a 56K modem.

I suspect in the less congested area it works better but more importantly if you want to consider using Celcom then better you get yourself someone to borrow u their Celcom SIM card and see whether (Please remember to activate the data service 1st or you're gonna blow the bill) your area does not have problems using Celcom.

A word of warning ... you can add on unlimited broadband (D68 or D98) to your voice service for free but you'll be charged RM 10 for deactivating it.

Can PM me for further discussions.

Define wireless broadband. There are many flavours of it

assuming we are talking bout HSDPA , the maximum that it can go is 14.4Mbps. But then our towers in Malaysia only allows a maximum connection up to 3.6Mbps. They might offer 7.2Mbps later once they have sufficient bandwidth. Do keep in mind that bandwidth is being shared and there is no way you can maintain consistent speed with wireless broadband just like you do with your wired broadband

WiMAX is also considered as wireless broadband.

Judging from the coverage area given during PC Fair, coverage in Malaysia will be very limited. A lot of people won't be able to sign up until end of the year.

Since it's a new technology by new ISP, it's always wiser to wait for comments from more people and until the network becomes stable.

I believe UMobile, Maxis and Celcom too are encountering the same problems now on how to handle the bandwidth (note that they are from telco background and are more familiarize with voice, so they might not be as knowledgable in handling data traffic). It could take time for them to have their full system capability in action.

If you are not so desperate, be patient to judge the the best wireless broadband provider in Malaysia.

All wireless broadband provider will encounter the same issue that is network congestion and bad RF condition. It's to see how they manage their traffic to make sure everyone will be happy and how they sell their package to attract the public.

At the moment, probably due to lack of competition, Maxis and Celcom are moving very slow and their package are some what not interesting. I'm waiting for DiGi to come in to give some boost to our 3G ISP. Our prepaid package is sort of mundane until DiGi comes in and inject some competition in to the telco industry.

Let's wait and see ... Malaysia Wireless broadband industry will be very very interesting in the coming years.

Maxis 3G, Celcom 3G, Izzi, P1 W1MAX, and Digi 3G ...

Who will be the weakest link? tongue.gif

VigSys VR20 is very easy to setup.
You can actually get connected by putting in the SIM without doing any settings.
They have web based Admin console for configuring the settings. Once you setup, the main thing to set will be the Wireless Security and SSID..Others will work with default settings. Very simple.
