You need 1GB or more to run current programs and games as it uses more RAM.

Windows will use the swap file on your hard disk more often if you don't have enough RAM which is why your system is slow.

You need a pair of RAM to enable a feature called dual channel. It doubles the bandwidth of the RAM.

That of course biggrin.gif. 1GB+1GB=2GB icon_idea.gif

But.....what the guy is talking about is dual channel. Simply put, if you use 2 identical 1GB ram, your 2GB ram will run a twice the bandwidth of using say just 1 stick of 2GB ram.

for vista minimum is 2gb of total ram...cos at log-in to window itself without doing anything it has already consumed 700mb of ram...but if u wana use for gaming then its advised to get 4gb of total ram cos newer games kinda uses alot of rams n it does makes some framerates difference on 4gb...but to fully utilise 4gb u will have to get 64bits OS lo...

Ditch the 512MB and get 2GB x2. Check your motherboard manual to see if it supports 2GB modules or not.

64 bit OS is 64 bit operating systems = vista 64 bits...

if u are running vista 32bits then the max it can detect n use is only 3.25gb of ram...n u will have to include the ram from ur GC as well in the sum....

if u are not planning to go 64bits, then just get a 2x1gb lo...

value ram for 2x2gb normally will cost around rm2xx like that....

Check your hardware for 64-bit drivers before you switch to Windows 64-bit. Windows 64-bit can be a pain in the ass when you have old hardware that doesn't have 64-bit drivers.

You can install 64-bit with Vista SP1 64-bit DVD. You cannot upgrade to 64-bit but you still can save your settings with Windows Easy Transfer. It doesn't support upgrade. Don't forget to backup your data before you install it.

Visit the manufacturer's site for your hardware. You can use the Device Manager to get the brand and model of your parts.

Most computer shops sells the DVD but 64-bit versions will be more difficult and expensive.
