to be a game artist u need a basic visual skill like able to design
a game layout in a proper media.

for real platform for game artis /designer is need BFA.
it is serious, not just only one in the million fesh bake diploma.
after the diploma u still need advanced course to land yourself in

usually big company won't just hired a freshies coz they can't risk

this thread is so old. but my advice is dont take any gamecourse if u want to work in malaysia.

u still can still take a typical graphic design/illustration/3d/multimedia and go work in game industry or design industry

No offence but I completely disagree with your point of view, being that I am working in the gaming industry I can safely say that a degree, master of whatever,
will not help in landing you a job in the game industry as an artist, it's all about the quality of your portfolio and also experience, alot of great game artist out there have no formal education,
who are instead self taught. You can see this in one of the previous Game Developer magazine, which had a section asking developers whether it was better to go through formal education or
being self taught. Almost 70% of them chose the latter.

And to the point of Ubisoft opening in Singapore instead of here, there's just 1 reason, money. Ubisoft representatives were actually here in malaysia for almost a year, set on setting up here,
and Mdec was going to offer them money, but the process took too damn long (you know our government working style), Singapore instead offered 30mil dollars(not sure SGD or USD), sign a paper and there they got it immediately. And most of their artist are actually from Malaysia, I have a few friends working there now. One thing they understood was, you can't get the infrastructure and political stability like Singapore in here, but people CAN move.

The gaming industry has alot of potential to be succesful in malaysia, and it isnt rocket science to do so, it just needs the commitment of both the people and the government.

And from my point of view about education, I'd suggest getting a proper education in basics, instead of a so called game college, if you want to be a game programmer, take a degree course in software engineering and self study about programming for games, if you want to be an artist, take an Illlustration or Digital Animation course. This way, if you have a tough time landing a game job, at least there are plenty other jobs to get, and while you're working you can still self develop your own skills so eventually you'll get a job in the gaming industry
