depends...

by stock comparison
then Q9450 is much better... in terms of clock speed/performance & power consumptions

if OC
then Q6600 is much better.. in terms of price....

And remember theres no such thing as buying for future. Technology expands & move further everyday. So buy what you need not what you want for the future smile.gif

if you are tight on budget willing 2 sacrifice performance, then q6600 is 4 you
if you are crazy on performance without financial problems, then q9450 is 4 you

you ask yourself that ya rclxms.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

its not so possible for a quad to hit such high fsb la....q6600 normally has a wall at 4xx fsb.....q9450 might do a lil better for the fsb wall though but still going above 500fsb will be super tough..

i tot vcore used is dependant on what clock speed u are on instead of multi? sweat.gif

@TS
IMO just get urself a q6600...its few hundred bucks cheaper n yet its easier for u to OC....but if u are talking bout stock speed vs stock speed.... q9450 will always win....like campsol2k said...all has to depend on what u want....

Q6600 is on 1066mhz(266mhz bus on motherboard) front side bus and Q9450 is on 1333mhz(333mhz on motherboard) by default.

You can go for Q6600 if Q9450 is out of your budget. Buy a good heatsink if you plan to overclock it. I don't think you need to change your processor for some time if you gonna play a lot of games with it. A good GPU affects the gaming performance much more than changing the processor.

I just bought the a q9450 about 3 weeks ago. This is the spec of my new PC:
(1) Intel Q9450
(2) ASUS P5Q Deluxe
(3) 4GB Kingston 667 RAM
(4) 2x 320GB WD HDD
(5) LG DVD RW
(5) Gigabyte 9600GT
(6) Zalman CNPS9500LED (HSF)
(7) CM Centurion 5 Casing

Despite the a small worry about the core temp of the first 2 cores (they are abt 57C at idle, but the last 2 cores are only at 43C at idle), q9450 is a magnificent processor. Coupled that with RAID 0, the whole system is so responsive that I just could not stop playing with it.

I know it is not a high end machine, but I am very contented (of course until I have a chance to get Nehalem).

NOTE: You can do a bit of research on core temp of q9450 on the Internet and it seems the new 45nm processors do have some temp problem.

it was not high because your 9600GT makes it not high and ruined your system status laugh.gif if you opt 2 get 9800GTX, then it would have been a different story brows.gif

ur heatsink din fit properly is it?? how come a quad core can reach 57C at idle?? shocking.gif
or ur ambient temperature is hot?zalman fan shudn't be tht weak.if like dat means using stock intel HSF will get 60++C at idle???or u oc it with super high vcore?

mine is around 28-32C range for all the cores wif ambient temp 24C.

btw to TS: Q6600 and Q9450 performance difference wont be tht noticable to naked eye.although Q9450 has 12Mb of L2 cache and Q6600 has 8Mb only.really not much difference in performance coz no application can make use of 12Mb of cache yet.
