just joined this club.!! haha

Belkin router burned,

bought WRT54GL today, tested with original firmware.
the router always DROP the WAN connection for no reason. Internet always jammed up in the middle of surfing(SURFING ONLY)...
couldn't take it anymore, flashed to Tomato!

For few hours, the router never drop my WAN connection. works fine until now. still learning how to fine tune the settings.

check your HDD DMA setting in Device manager... sometimes it will downgrade to PIO mode (from DMA) after recurring CRC errors.

i was at the dd-wrt thread and downloading the flash files when i came across tomato, did a google search on it and seems like there are more happy users with tomato than dd-wrt, i've a linksys wrt54gl v1.1 and was planning to flash it, so should i go with dd-wrt or tomato?

ok, i decided i'll go with tomato!

Its up to you

If you want more SSID , bloated , friendly-GUI then go with DD-WRT

Otherwise stick with tomato , its sleek and its more towards QoS. Its generally your call

Google for victek tomato and click on the first page

Its a modified version of tomato with tons of optimistaions and fixes. Recommended if you plan to like monitor/limit your housemates usage , so that they don't hog your bandwidth on p2p

in terms of performance...
both Victek and Tomato is about the same right?

Managed to get the QOS to work....

was hosting a Dota game and downloading with Thunder at the same time. (DL150/UL26)

no one in my game complained ... guess the firmware is really doing a great job...

even if i max out the Thunder, my mom still can surf without problem on the other computer.!

thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif Thumbs up for TOMATO

Original Linksys firmware will drop my internet every once in a while for no reason(although i've set Max Idle :9999mins), and then i must restart, because the router won't redial, even after i click reconnect from the Router Config Page.

My TOMATO firmware is the latest one, v1.25 .

Yes

But if you want you can overclock the CPU with Victek (well actually its possible to do on all WRTs , you'll have to do it in command line but Victek made it easier for people to use the web interface to overclock or underclock their CPU)

The reasons why you want to overclock :-

1) too many connections
2) you feel like doing it

The reasons you may want to underclock :-

1) Going green , want to cut down power consumption

Personally I've overclocked the CPU and I've installed a passive heatsink. I'll take a picture later for you guys

Well not really , it hardly consumes power. Just leave it at default clock , since you're using P2P. If you're just using both PCs to surf net , then feel free to underclock it
