Call of Duty 5 New Details
- Set during World War II

Call of Duty 5 is getting "World at War" as a subtitle. Even more, progress is really coming along in the shooter which takes the Call of Duty series back to World War II (guys, if you like history so much, let's mix it up a little; Korea, maybe Vietnam will make much cooler
battlefields than another landing in Normandy).

Developers Treyarch are focusing on the Pacific theater of the war and are trying to change a few of the elements of the game so that it feels like a fresh experience rather than like a re-heated old war game. An article in the Official Xbox Magazine is claiming that Treyarch are aiming to explore "the darkest corners of WWII" with the game, in some sections, taking on elements usually reserved for survival horror titles. There are rumors that the game will feature torture scenes and scenarios where the player is nothing but helpless against overwhelming odds, all designed to transmit the horrors of war to the player.

There are other innovations in the way the game will be played as well. It seems that the developers are integrating a co-op mechanic for the campaign, allowing each player to team up with a friend through the whole experience. Seamless drop in and seamless drop out, with the AI taking over, will also be supported. Multiplayer is designed to place a bigger emphasis on squad tactics and on judicious use of vehicles.

Currently, development efforts are concentrating on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 5. There's also talk of a third party developing a Nintendo Wii version of the game that will use the Call of Duty 4 engine and will let players use the Wii Zapper.

Release dates have not been announced, but we might see the game before Christmas and the shopping madness that it usually entails.

Anyone waiting for this? drool.gif

I think this game (developed by treyarch) won't be anywhere near as good as CoD4:MW.

Compare CoD 1, 2 and 4 (all made by infinity ward) with CoD3 (made by treyarch, same as CoD5, mainly for consoles rather than PCs). No competition really, CoD3 is by far the evil stepsister of the series, the worst of the lot, by some considerable margin.

This is all mainly due to EAs constant push for gaming world sales domination. Instead of keeping to an industry standard of using one game developer for one series of games, they're shuffling the CoD series between 2 game devolopers (infinity ward and treyarch), with one release after the other every year.

In doing so they're ruining the reputation of the CoD series, tainting it with stigmas of having 1 (or 2 after CoD5 is released) bad cockups. Because of precisely this reason the CoD series will not be remembered as one of the true greats of FPS games. A pity if you ask me.

EA is going to be famous for doing these kinds of things. Take Mass Effect as another example. Bioware first said that it's going to be a trilogy, which is awesome as they would have probably finished writing the story for 3 games. Now EA has just announced that they'll make more than 3 of ME games, which will definitely ruin the flow of the games' story (to a certain extent), and all this to try to suck all the money they can get their dirty paws on out of any famous game franchises..

Shame on you, EA

All big corporations are evil tongue.gif ....thats why we love to hate them...that goes to EA, SEGA, Activision, Ubisoft. They all make bad decisions one time or the other. You cant always hate them though since they own some of our beloved studios now rclxub.gif

BTW Activision and Blizzard are one giant company now tongue.gif Valve is the only odd one out....

No lah people are sad when a treyarch COD comes out. It has lacked that magic Infinity Ward touch.

I guess CoD5 is a good opportunity for treyarch to redeem themselves. If this time they can pump out a good game, we'll all probably forget about what they did to CoD3.

However, if the upcoming CoD5 sucks balls, it's time to look forward to IW's CoD6 instead.

Even numbers are meant for PCs, the odd numbered games are consoles. It's an agreement between Activision and Treyarch.
