Every time I've tried this week I have gotten a message that the service is down for maintenance. Maybe they gave up.

Saw their notice on their website regarding to service upgrade of WiMAX sites two nights ago. Maybe it solves the problem now.

Wimax meant to cover a bigger area not somethin' like hotspot. So, in my opinion Wireless@kl is not a type of Wimax service, it is just a gimmick by P1 whereby they put a wireless router at location where you basically have to "pay" to enter the strategic location e.g at Dome KLCC.

The real Wimax is when you able to log to internet eventhough you are inside your car driving around KLCC area.

So, don't expect to get wireless internet service while you are relaxing at KLCC park. For the time being, I'm still thinking that Wireless@kl is a joke! I would rather sit at KFC and enjoy their wireless service. Here is the joke from wireless@kl :

QUOTE
Welcome to Wireless@KL, an innovative wireless broadband Internet access service that keeps you connected all the time, wherever you may be in Kuala Lumpur (KL).

Whether you live in KL, work here or are simply visiting this vibrant city, you can now take advantage of a FREE* wireless broadband service with speeds of up to 512 kilobits per second (kbps) anytime, almost anywhere in KL.

No one ever claims Wireless@KL is a WiMAX. If you are looking for WiMAX, I think you should look for the P1 W1MAX solution.

Wireless@KL is running on wifi (wimax as backhaul, wifi as last mile), that's why people can get connected to use the service (using wifi embedded notebook) without having a wimax modem.

Wireless@KL is provided free by the government (DBKL) not by P1.

Is it just me or is WirelessKL rapidly falling apart? Most of the hotspots just say they are in "maintenance mode" or are otherwise not functioning. It's rare that I can use it at all anymore.

Its weird. I can detect and connect to it. But browsing is impossible. Blank screen is all I get. Beginning to feel that it is a fake for the sake of publicity. You know our society. biggrin.gif

Perak is now the leader in wireless broadband implementation in Malaysia. The KL City Council should seek their expertise in this.We have a proven model here which could serve the city well.

Close to 80% of the Ipoh is covered by this long range WiFi and they are now pushing for unlicensed Mobile WIMAX in the near future.
