Yes, they will know and they have the rights not to replace yr GPU.
Go ahead and OC yr lappie...don't come here and cry for help when yr GPU died due to overheating

yeah, evilhomura89!! you’re so evil!! laugh.gif

vincent, your friend Inspiron 1520 8600M GT is only DDR2 and as you know 1520 is build like a tank.
their heat sink is bigger that’s why the temp is cooler than our M1530.
last time, i'm also quite surprised to know their max temp are significatly lower.

didn't hear rubber CASE before.. all i know about rubber protector is "invisibleShield" which is about rm140 for XPS M1530... Only protect the cover side and wristrest......... wrist rest is a common problem for all laptop where the color will come off or changes after some time of usage due to the friction from our wrist when typing...

see my signature smile.gif

although LG screen is bright (hmm too bright!!) and zero-grains,
i found that the contrast is lower than samsung.
samsung black is black while lg black is just dark area.

i need to tweak my LG a bit when watching DVD/video.
if not video will look so grainy with a lot of artifacts blink.gif

Nvidia gives OEMs $200 per bad mobile GPU
Monday, 08 September 2008 11:21

Nvidia announced that it will set aside 200 million to deal with the notebook issue. The big news that is usually forgotten is that Nvidia GPUs are mostly having an issue with throttling and they actually don’t die, at least not in most of the cases.

Nvidia made a deal with big OEMs, such as Dell and HP that they will get $200 per affected notebook and we are hearing that OEMs are quite happy about it. It turns out that this is more than generous and that this covers the cost of a new chip, the repair cost and all the other cost related to this issue.

Some end users on various forums have reported that the software released by HP sometimes sets the fan speed to maximum making their machines really noisy, which gets frustrating, while the other users didn’t report such a change. It turns out that the software / bios update will change the fan speed only on certain models but we couldn’t really find a pattern. Some designs are affected and some are not, but obviously, you will see more of this throttling issue with the notebooks that have a very hot environment.

End users are upset with Nvidia as there is very limited information about the issue, but Nvidia cannot talk on behalf of its OEM partners and it’s up to HP, Dell and other big OEMs to tell their customers what is wrong or what might go wrong with their machines. It’s a real mess as OEMs don’t really want to give much details and end users are the one who are affected the most.

Nvidia mobile issue is not as bad
So far there are no recalls

Monday, 08 September 2008 10:46

We spent some time to figure out what is actually going on with Nvidia's notebook chip issue. We were told by multiple sources that the issues has been simply blown out of proportion and that the situation is definitely much better than most of the people believe.

We were told by industry sources that so far neither Dell or HP have recalled a single notebook using Nvidia GPUs. You might be aware that mostly notebooks with Geforce 7 and Geforce 8 mobile chips are affected and so far there are no any reports that Geforce 9 mobile series are having the same issue. The issue is related to a mobile chip packaging and obviously, someone used a wrong combination of materials that is leading to this issue.

Dell and HP have announced preventative software updates and extended warranty programs for affected models but they and other OEMs haven't issued full widespread GPU recalls. Dell and HP are probably the most affected simply as they are selling much more SKUs compared to anyone else. This should indicate that the mobile GPU problem is not a widespread epidemic.

We will keep our eyes open, but so far there has not been any big recalls of notebooks with Nvidia’s GPU and this is a significant detail that was not properly communicated with the market but this is up to OEM’s while Nvidia has to keep its mouth shut due to the contracts it has with big OEMs.

We were also told that the issue affects a small number of notebooks and it occurs mostly in some notebooks where the GPU and the rest of the machine is pushed to its limits, and even then it doesn’t happen every time. There will be more about this issue as it really caught our attention.

Compared to Sony's recent recall of 440,000 VAIO notebooks, the Nvidia issue really doesn't seem to be a significant one, as it has not forced a single vendor to recall a single unit.

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif i was hoping they recall and replace equivalent 9 series GPU for us.. tongue.gif

at last official words for Nvidia. i want 9600M GT!! drool.gif

but the problem with M1530 design, the graphic card is integrated on the mobo.
to change the GPU to Geforce 9 series, Dell need to redesign the mobo again and definitely it will cost more $$$$
are Dell willing to do that? sad.gif

well, depends on videos and movies, especially that have a lot dark scenes.
if you look carefully, you can see more artifacts.

or maybe the screen is just too bright that i can see all the unwanted thingy.
i'm a bit cerewet regarding screen quality tongue.gif

although not 100% perfect, overall LG is very nice screen wub.gif
