Why no xenon flash? sad.gif

Battery consumption already quite high for PDA phones, still want to add xenon flash meh. Somemore it'll need additional circuitry to control the rate of charge/discharge. Also protection circuitry to the other parts of the phone during a flash discharge.

I wouldn't say it is permanent problem though. It is the software and firmware which needs some polishing before it can turn out its true use. The TouchFlo3D transitions are ok but launching something takes a small lag before it responds unlike other PDAs. Disabling it will restore that speed though.

I am more interested to know how HTC achieves hardware graphic acceleration despite Qualcomm (the manufacturer of the processor) have not settle with the Broadcom patent lawsuit yet. Read from xda-developers which could be a back-end communication through the ARM9 base-band processor. That could explain the 'delay' due to non-optimized operations routines. Anyway the good news is, the 3D driver is intact and could be use to fix other HTC products like TyTN II, Cruise, etc.

Lets hope for the best now.

david, the fix seems to be the 192MB RAM. dedicated 64MB ram for it... leaving 128MB for phone itself.

rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

Its a tough explanation because both uses the same platform: Qualcomm 7200/01A. The only difference is that the Cruise's 7200 is clocked at 400MHz and has 128MB of RAM while the Diamond's 7201A (7200 or 7201A is essentially the same due to the patent lawsuit implications) is clocked at 5xxMHz and have 196 of RAM (64MB dedicated for TouchFlo3D and graphics and 128MB for OS operational).

In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with the platform except for the non-support from the manufacturers for the graphics portion which reduces the overall performance of the Cruise, TyTN II and etc because HTC relies on software rendering (for now). The Diamond however according to xda-developers have these new drivers fully intact. But due to the heavy resource requirement of TouchFlo3D, it kinda brings us back to the same problem. However, among these two, I will still pick Diamond mainly because it is HTC's latest attempt to fix its mistake in the TyTN II fiasco and enter the new fully customizable Windows Mobile UI. I would expect HTC to prioritize Diamond in terms of software support and firmware improvement.

No offence to the Cruise and TyTN II users, but if history serves us well, HTC seem to have abandoned its promise in supplying improved performance for these users. I guess new Diamond users will have to put up with the slowness at the moment or revert back to the original UI until this is fixed.

Yeah, it dedicated 64MB for the TouchFlo3D and leaving only 128MB left. Thats a little low to with today's standard because when the phone is started, it is only left with a 50+MB of RAM. Execute a few applications or few days into the usage, the RAM drops all the way down to 30+MB of RAM. Maybe thats one of the reason why the Touch Pro is forecasted to have more than 200MB of RAM?

You can start by doing a wikipedia search at www.wikipedia.com (of course. haha!)

Then when you're ready, come back here and we'll help you the differentiation of these two terms in the current PDA architecture. A lot of history lessons here. tongue.gif

It'll drop but not to the extend of below RM2000 I guess. It'll probably reduce to the price point of TyTN II later. Then HTC will probably introduce a newer model to replace it so that it can claim the 'RM2799' spot again. HTC already has entry level models to satisfy the 'less than RM2000' price point.

Marketers nowadays don't devalue their pricing anymore. Instead they add more value to the product: in terms of features, and things along that line. In the past, we've seen products eventually coming down to a price point that is acceptable and affordable to everyone. It might not happen now. Granted that computer chips actually gets cheaper and cheaper every generation, the higher models will always be expensive. After all that is one of the way firms tries to claim the premium spot and higher profit margin. You may wonder how people can spend that kind of money. Look at Touch Diamond, iPhone, etc. These products differentiate itself from other products and it has what it takes to attract people and make them pay the premium. The only good news is that the entry level gets more advanced and value for money in every generation that supersedes itself. I am confident that HTC has something up its sleeves for replacing the original HTC Touch.

We already have HTC Touch Diamond replacing Touch Cruise while the HTC Touch Pro will replace TyTN II. The HTC Touch II Enhanced can be thought as a temporary replacement for the original HTC Touch. We'll see something similar for the replacement for HTC Touch soon enough. icon_idea.gif

wah.. this diamond sold rm2799 in malaysia? my bos just bought it at HK last week for around rm2.3k after convert. as my opinion, this phone quite bad. my bos let me explore the pda and help him install the mapking.. first of all... im using eten x500, and when i test the gps, my eten can locate the satelite more faster then the diamond. i test it 3 times, and the diamond system really slow if compare with my eten x500, even after i disable the touch flo. but the picture auto rotate is quite cool.. looks like iphone function.. ( i install the application get from xda-developers) other then that.. the camera quite ok lah.. and damn.. the reset button.. hahaha.. took me sometimes to locate it.. it's locate at the stylus place, hidden, so if u want to reset.. must take the stylus out.. and the stylus is magnatic at his place.. no more click when keeping the stylus.

Added on July 8, 2008, 4:13 pmerr.. can someone tell me the name for other version of diamond that have keyboard.. i saw it at htc website but forgot..
