Hi all juz a question regarding three Universities...... they are UTM, UM AND UTP. Which one is better? This is mainly because i just browsed list for the top 100 Universities in South East Asia. UTM was ranked 15, UM was ranked 19 while UTP got 91. I was wondering that UTP should be better but how come?Erm guys plz voice out your opinion!

Locally the govt funded unis have a huge financial edge which helps the score (more money = bigger campus, facilities). Also UTP is kinda new, takes some time to build up reputation esp on postgrad/research level.

UTM got a lot of research going on. btw, it's ipta. well established and widely known.
for UTP, it's still new. most student go there to work with petronas after grads.

for UTP, the grads mostly able to secure job with petronas after grads.
UTM also student easier to secure job. i've met final year chem engineering student. she's female btw. she not even finished her study yet. but, schlumberger and shell already called her for interview. btw, UTM got ranking 161 from THES in their "Recruiters Review" perspective.
dunno about UM.
overall, all three university are good in engineering. just do well, and lot of offer will come. but, if you want to have higher chances to work with petronas in O&G industry, go UTP.
if i was given the choice, I'll only choose utp if i got the scholarship.
no scholarship, i'll go UTM. besides, my home at skudai. only 10-15 minutes ride to utm.

QUOTE(wct @ May 6 2008, 05:51 PM) mechanical engineering if i m not mistaken la.... Honestly I can tell you the standards in UM are quite bad la. 1st hand knowledge here, am taking Mech in UM . Its nothing like what one would expect from the so called best uni in Malaysia. But then again, probably the advantages are that UM is in a good location, heart of KL, as opposed to heart of Perak(UTP) and heart of Johor(UTM), no offence to either of those 2 places

utp better than local unis, all of them. most of them from rank 80+ something, can go to 300+ something in the world list of university. totally destroy our education system. Go UTP as 1st priority. then UTM last UM. This post has been edited by Stefanov: May 6 2008, 06:34 PM

webometrics SEA ranking put UTM at 15, UM at 19 and UTP at 91 out of 100. this is talking about internet content, usage and reference as well as the contribution of the scholars in the university's education system. united SEA puts UTM at 15 while UM at 19 in the ranking by bloggers from 10 countries united. (UTP didnt make the cut) THES 2008 ranks UM at 246 in the world, UTM at 450++ and UTP wasnt even in the list. this should put things into better perspective. but u're talking engineering, ofcourse. better find a ranking specific for engineerings to be more precise. UTP might be better in terms of job opportunities .. but i thought UTM would be better in terms of facilities & teaching materials because it was well funded .. UM may be for science student ..

without petronas, utp is just a normal ipts. because most graduates manages to secure job with petronas, that why statistic shows most of their graduates manage to secure job within 6months after graduate.
for engineering, UTM is more well known and reputable U. I've been there many times, and I can say that the facilities is 1st class. moreover, they have you can stay in the hostel from 1st year till final year. not to mention reasonable fees.
gor UM, their engineering is not famous. they are more famous in science and medical.
seriously, if you wanna work in the O&G industry, go UTP.
