since it is built on the same engine as vista, requirement is also almost the same

most likely lighter is correct word rather than faster
but lighter os also tends to get faster result
since lack of the sidebar, aero etc stuff result to less resources usage

just tested on my moms system, no problem like lagging/slow with winserv2008ee x64
amd sempron 3800+ 2.2ghz
1.5gb ddr2 pc533
geforce igp 6150se

tonight gonna test on other set of system with winserv2008ee x64
intel p4 630 3ghz
1gb ddr pc400
geforce 4mx

words sometimes dont give good answer
need to try 1st to experience it
thats what happen to evil oracle
1st he very skeptic with 2008
but after using it because of desperate cannot use his 3870, he fall for the os, n lack of sleep for 2 days because of it, lol

also, torrent user also gonna love this os, because no need to tweak tcp/ip & max half-connection like in vista

help... Unknown Device Identifier doesn't run under Win Server 2008 x64 ler... wth? the website stated that it is supported under this OS... duuuhh....

Error: Privileged instruction!

any help out there? im trying hard to find a driver for my sb live value & unfortunately, creative deemed it an 'enf of service life" product. ha... so much support for a legendary sound card... well, thx but no thx no more creative products for me...

quote: "Please note that the product you have selected has been classified as "End of Service Life""

been trying the hacked drivers all over the net without much success. guess i have to bear the "no ummphhh" built-in hi def audio for the time being until i sort things out...

cheers

Added on April 26, 2008, 7:33 amsorry guys to barge in, but winsvr2008entx64 rox hehe... but for the lack of genuine x64 drivers, it's gonna be in the same predicament as in vista x64 too, until more hw vendors put effort into coming up wif 64bit drivers

cheers

Everyone seem to forget that this is server version is not for home user. Inside server is there any that uses sound card beside integrated? The drivers is quite mature for the fact that server hardware are mostly integrated. The only drawback in server for my case is blue tooth support. Other than that everything run perfectly fine. Even though i have unsupported legacy sound driver but manage to install it using windowsXP x64 version.

Installed on :

Intel E6300
1GB Ram DDR400
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro

Acer 5920G
T7300
2GB DDR2 667
Geforce 8600M GT

Verdict : After using for exactly 1 month my desktop required another 1GB of ram, startup slow.

spiv...

im a home user as well as a sw developer, so a toned down server os will serve my purpose very well. in fact, i can do developments, and still continue my home user thingies... sorta 2-in-1 convenience. fyi, all the drivers r in place & working fine too, well except the sb live value ler. i wont fork out my hard earned moolah just to be able to use my sound card in a new os, wud u? maybe u wud, but i dont see why coz the sc is working blardy well in an xp machine... granted not every os will be supported by all sound cards, but this is the "OS" we're talking 'bout. subtle coercion here to part wif ur monies? hehe...

cheers

I don't think many ppl will shift to Win Server 2008 cause the price is tooooo high lo. Unless you encourage to use something "pirated" which we strongly no recommended here.

im not encourage ppl to pirate
im just encourage ppl to give 2008 a try, since the os are free to use up almost 8 month max n no serial number needed
then when gonna try something as expensive as rm12k where u can use it freely n legally?

after clicking next button, it should prompt confirmation to enter again or not the serial key

if you OC your system, try to install on stock speed 1st
sometimes the installer quite retarded when OC
after finished install, then you can OC back

we all know that vista is hardware demanding n high requirement
Define hardware demanding and high requirements. In the age of RAM price are cheaper than eating out in a fancy restaurant and processor prices are so low that ppl are using it for e-penis, how DEMANDING it is? You can get a vista compatible PC for less than 1k nowadays, complete with Aero.

lol, bullshit drivers are still bullshit. It will show DX10, but because it's not really DX10, it's still a bullshit driver.
Besides, DX10 DOES NOT USE the 4.xx.xxxx.xxxxx version. DX10 starts with 6.00.6000.16386.

And honestly, I see no use in using this. For one, the price is a lot higher than regular Vista. And as I have been using the full version (yes my office has bought the full version. Now go whine), there is NO DIFFERENCE at all. nothing. nada. well except of course I have to go to all the crazy shit to enable anythign that already enabled by default on Vista. for server wise, yes this is better as it's really meant for server (the new Command Prompt is awesome) but honestly for day to day usage, it's not as good for a desktop PC. Not to mention that update wise, this will have later updates than Vista as commonly compromises are usually exploited on teh desktop rather than a server.

Hang on, we ditch Vista for Server 2008? What's the logic in that? You recommend that we all change to Server 2008 just for reliability? Server 2008 is meant for just that, servers. It makes no sense if you say, "LULZ... this OS rox, let's all change" when it clearly isn't meant for the typical home user.

And the moment you said, "Turn on all the Vista functions" it got even more ridiculous. Server 2008 is meant for a server ENVIRONMENT.

lol, for a USD999 OS, I rather go for the USD349 Vista ultimate. And do tell me, do you reformat every time you're time trial is finished?

@Aoshi_88
depend on the user perspective
some people do it for the trill
for me, im using windows server since 2003 ver and never turn back again

@linkinstreet
about the hardware, maybe i didnt point it clearly
it was meant for older system that vista can be install on
about the trial, maybe format every 8 months, just stay trial laah rolleyes.gif

its up to people to judge 2008
for me, 2008 is much better than vista
