Lately I found out many LYN member's rigs got strike by lightning. And how each component has to be tested to find out whether is it dead or not. So I would like to tell you guys on how to prevent this from happening.

1. Buy a surge protector.
- The cheapest I found was some PowerLogic model retailing at roughly RM75. This is a MSUT for every rig as it protects your system from spikes and lightning. A long term investment. Even if a lightning does strike, at the most the surge protector will die. At least it has sacrificed itself for your rig. Furthermore, a good surge protector would be able to filter the modem and phone lines.

2. Disconnect power cable.
- I know most people don't do this, but for your rig, you should, especially these few days when the rain and lightning is so often. Even if the lightning strikes when you are not at home, your rig will be spared. A recommended move for those who do not want to buy a surge protector.

3. Disconnect modem/phone lines.
- As funny as it seems, disconnecting these lines can actually prevent your modem from being fried. Even if its not the modem , the LAN chip on your mobo may be fried.

I will add some more tips once I have crawled through Google.
