The Malaysian buffet mentality will slowly see forums swamped with threads on:

1. Cannot torrent
2. S#it la P1 block torrents
3. Give me my "maximum WiMax speed" ! I want ! I want ! I Want !
4. Cannot torrent

Getting back to business, any mention on pricing ? Not gonna be free issit ?

Nope, that should be correct. Mobility support, i.e. staying connected even when moving and in this case, you'll still be connected even when travelling at 160km/h.

And c'mon 160kb speeds would be pathetic for an emerging standard.

the bottomline here is pricing.

will it be affordable when roll out is done or will the users laugh hysterically at the prices. its all $$$ to the ratio of kBps or MBps. not many are gonna surf @ 160km/h. its illegal to travel at that speeds. its hard enough to concentrate on the road and its a bloody lousy marketing gimmick. stick within the boundary of laws when u do advertising.

QUOTE(Suk @ Apr 11 2008, 02:42 AM)

The new trump card of wireless connectivity, here are the top 5 things you need to know about WiMAX:

. Wider coverage with wireless broadband access up to 50km! (WiFi coverage is limited between 30 - 100m).

. Higher speed from more efficient bandwidth use, interference avoidance and is designed to allow higher rates of data to be robustly transmitted over longer distances.

. Cost effective as WiMAX is based on an open, international standard, allowing for low cost, mass-produced chipsets - which means competitive pricing and costs savings for service providers and end-users.

. Interoperability thanks to international, vendor-neutral standards will eventually drive equipment cost down as a result of mass adoption.

. Mobility takes a step forward with the IEEE 802.16e amendment (also known as mobile WiMAX) that has added key features in support of mobility including allowing connectivity at speeds up to 160km per hour.

Psst...

If you want to connect to the basestation 50km away, you will need a CPE as tall as menara kl.

Allowing connectivity at 160km per hour means nothing if it does not handle the handover fast enough between the base stations.

Lets hope their Mobile WIMAX is running on PMIP or else both you and me would have to install some crappy third party client to access it.

This May 2008, you can look forward to 1,500 new WiFi hot spots in Kuala Lumpur thanks to the launch of the KL Wireless Metropolitan Project.

They're deploying WiFi NOT WiMAX this May ler. Since WiMAX covers large areas of 50km max, why do they need to deploy 1,500 wireless hotspots in KL? KL is larger than the moon? laugh.gif

wimax have 2 standard. the one cover 50km is point to point. not to custumer, u and me. batu pahat - muar 50 km. put one tower in semerah can cover both muar, and batu pahat ? heh. it not work.

normal wimax is like 3g coverage 5km from tower.

I still think the "WiFi" they were referring to wasn't WiMAX, the source is kinda misleading people to think WiMAX is going to deploy soon. Besides 1,500 of normal WiMAX station to cover the whole KL area is overkill. Me thinks 200 is more than enough.
