Well, not all products from Kingston are defect free. It is unavoidable that some of the product might fail to work. You are just the unlucky one that your thumbdrive got problem. Why not go and claim warranty instead?

Hey TS, your topic title is misleading. It's not a recall, you're just complaining about your specific thumbdrive.

Send your thumbdrive back for warranty claim.

apart from that, there are also other precaution that u need to observe before plugging it into any USB port:

1. ensure that there are no debris (habuk2 thingy, especially conductive material) between your connector point. just take a look 1st before plugging in. This is due to the reason that it may collect lotsa stuff from your pocket, sweat, moisture and etc, those that have the tendency to shorten the power contact point.

2. plugging it in properly, make sure the connector is inserted in parallel with the port position. Although the thumbdrive connection is fool-proof, it doesnt include human as well smile.gif

3. pluggin it in ONLY when you want to transfer data, long term usage may also cause the overheating. An if your thumbdrive is soaked in any way, dry it out 1st.

other than that, well, u may have a defective unit then... no choice, claim warranty lorr..

of coz there's nothing we can do to prevent bad luck.. but as hunt2sp wrote above, there're few things we can do to minimize the chances to damage the thumbdrive..

but only few got problem with the kingston, then it means their product is quite reliable..

when i first read the title, i thought kingston was recalling all their data travelers thumbdrives sweat.gif
anyway, u would not expect their products to be 100% defect free, would u? i had a thumbdrive that failed me too (no, not kingston), but i would not bark about it here. juz send for warranty

Owh for god's sake johnkor, you're a menace to the society.
Remove all those bold words and red fonts.
It's a sore to the eyes, you want people to read, type properly.

8GB now going for Rm99 or lower... zzz... 1GB only RM15. duh~! doh.gif

actually Kingston's low end data traveler 100 is slow, unless you're using those traveler 110, those are faster. i'd prefer pendrives or corsair, even apacer ones are somewhat faster. sweat.gif

Off topic:
