I personally dislike Linux as a desktop, for that I prefer Windows or Mac OS X. But as a server, Linux is great like Solaris.

these 3 are not based on ubuntu/debian? i tried debian itself, there are no distorted graphics problem. however after finally setting up a wireless connection through wicd, i am stuck again, with installing a network printer n scim-pinyin.

Why don't you try CentOs, it been widely use for server. though, still good for desktop if you want to have a try...

It's not based on debian, it based on Red Hat.

Have a go at it...

thanks! i am currently downloading the "CentOS-5.3-i386-LiveCD.iso". or should i be downloading "CentOS-5.3-i386-bin-1of6.iso"? to be on the safe side, i guess i should download both. i am not sure if the laptop (with low specifications) can support it, but no harm trying. thanks again!
