1. Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu but is more complete as a desktop replacement for Windows)
2. Ubuntu (based on Debain is very user friendly and Mac users will feel quite at home)
3. PCLINUXOS (KDE's answer to Mint)
4. OpenSUSE (IMHO quite well put together however coming from a big vendor some grey areas which might be illegal aren't included thus a big download/update if u want it to have the same functions of Mint)
5. Fedora (when u get abit more adventurous)

Linux have no registry issue like "tingkap" which make the boot every time slower.

In the Ubuntu 9.04 variant boot quite fast.

Desktop Environment also quite alot can be choose.

myself is an ex-Ubuntu user, I have been using Ubuntu as my primary OS for few months but finally I decided to go back to Windows for some reason--it does not meet my requirement in many ways. I wonder why you all use Linux? your job needed? it looks cool? you are just interested to learn something new? or you are purely supporting freeware? And u use Linux to serve for what purpose? Networking? Desktop usage?

I used it for programming stuff(except vb.net). Having 2 desktops that I can switch back and forth allows me to easily follow the codes. Besides, I like to learn new things. not to mention virus-free too~

yes i couldn't see the point in using an operating system like linux too it always.....

1. instantly comes back to live from hibernation/sleep/standby shakehead.gif
2. no need to reboot 2-3 times for an application installation? mad.gif
3. appget <application name> i get free professionally made software. icon_question.gif
4. my power on/off button doesn't get pressed too often blush.gif
5. i am able to surf, burn dvd's, ripp music, playgames, print, play music all at the same time vmad.gif
6. i enjoy paying symantec for false protection and making my C2D upgrade to 486 after installation wub.gif
7. i enjoy wasting time installing 3rd party apps for common things like PDF, ZIP, RAR from free sites which might contain virus drool.gif

etc etc brows.gif

yes mostly because crash, i used to built webserver using 'tingkap 2000' but it always crash so i need to restart once a week. after that i found out about linux and been using it since. very fun to use as it not that user friendly but when you get a hang on it, you feel it's not much a hassle. i start of with slackware and now i migrate to FreeBSD and Arch Linux. now i use linux to set up many kind of server, such as vpn, proxy, remote monitoring, mail and etc. and i still use tingkap to play games buat other than that linux satisfy me tongue.gif

just embarked on ubuntu jaunty for days, it's much more user friendly than suse and fedora, many drivers and applications are fetched together with os installation, and there is no need to configure this and that so much. what I did before it gets to serve me like windows did are only
1. install flash
2. install video codecs
3. install cairo-dock
4. configure intel graphic card
5. install compiz (window tarak bende nih)
which takes half a day and now i am using ubuntu happily biggrin.gif Will start programming using ubuntu asap.
i am using dual boot in case I need to do some fuzzy documentation that really needs ms office.

and then there's the whole vendor lock-in, cost of ownership, piracy, dubious business practice by vendors.

I use Linux (Mint 7 64-bit) at home because:

1. I did not want to buy a copy of Windows.
2. I did not want to buy an anti-malware solution to protect the OS.
3. I wanted to try using Linux on a desktop platform as opposed to a server platform.
4. I wanted to learn new things and leave the comfort zone of MS Windows.
