I think you got yourself a really good deal there. I got mine RM999 without the 4GB, the Desktop charger and the 2nd batt.

including the 1 i posted? tat version also not good? non perfect as in stability? software compatibility? or others? mind to elaborate more?

Have anyone configure i780 to use as a modem with Digi 3G broadband before?

but ... how to use garmin gps on i780?

i tried b4, but system said hv to wait (searching)?
& after 2mins still nothing.

& do i need to fill up the address number for every location?
can i just search for the building or road name?

u muz be outside wif clear sky in order to lock ur gps to the satellite...
for cold start it might need up to 5 mins to lock...
try again it shldn't be any problem...

or if u wan faster u can turn on the enhanced gps on the windows setting there.. but it will cost u wif the gprs charges..

mostly i search by the street name or the building name.. of course not every building name or POI available on the map.. do google up the street name it helps alot..

The problem with WM6.5 is the bottom tab. It blocks other running apps tabs. Eg. fring. It's hard to press the tab in fring if using WM6.5. The problem occurs for both 128 and 96 DPI.

So far i've been using for both modem and in-built 3G function. No issue.

For DiGi line, you need to disable DiGi ALS:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin
Enabled=0

My phone gets disconnected once in a while.

When i try to connect back, it says that the phone is in flight mode.

But i'm not flying.....

I cant get the gps to work
am i doing anything wrong

well tis is my current settings hopefully can help u...
program port GPD1
hardware COM9
baud rate 4800..
actually is the default setting..

then try tis setting on the Enhanced GPS
enable the XTRA
disable the auto download..

now connect to wifi internet..
click the XTRA data download...
if cannot download got error soft reset ur phone then try to download again..

go out try again... best if u r moving in car speed.. not too fast not too slow...

To check your firmware,

Go to SETTINGS -----> Go for the SYSTEM tab------> Then look for VERSION





BTW, i searched the XDAforum...i still cannot find the firmware, (PDXHI1)

I'm not signing the Broadband (AP=3gdgnet) but I bolted the voice with Internet Unlimited (APN=diginet). So far, looking at the OCS, my 3G access is truely unlimited. And I have virtually exceeded the 3GB cap. Really satisfy with DiGi 3G service. Good for youtubing 24/7 without buffering problem.

Why bother the old firmware(s). The latest PDXIB1 is stable than the rest. And I even fed-up with WM6.5 320x320 screen issue.

Try to stand in the clear sky at NIGHT so that it is not too hot for you to stand in the daylight. If after 5 minutes failed, reset the device. If after that still failed, you need to Hard Reset the device. I realised, based on my unit, if the current setting works, when you hard reset, the next attempt will take longer to lock the satellite. Therefore, hard reset a few times to see which "attempt" is the fastest lock attempt.

My best setting is the same as yours COM8 & COM9 Combo. I did try the GPD1, that also works but takes longer time to lock. But if you want, try MapKing 2007. It will definitely lock faster than Garmin MXT. But the map is hard to obtain now as well as the UI is old already.

If you have no choice, Hard Reset the device. It could be SIM problem. Try to plug in different SIM to your i780 to see if problem remains.

As long as your unit is "stable", there's no need to upgrade. Usually, the issue will come during:
1) WiFi not stable,
2) 3G Video Call doesn't work,
3) Bluetooth not stable,
4) Camera not stable,
5) GPS is weak
6) The other party cannot hear us during call.

This is my 2nd sim card. The same thing happened to my first sim card.

I've done soft reset as well as heard reset and the issue still persist.

The issue normally comes when i surf the internet on the phone through wifi or 3g. Then all of a sudden, there will be a disconnection.

I cannot connect the phone again and i have to turn it off and on again.

Obviously, HA1 is the first firmware for i780. You better upgrade to the latest IB1 at http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/i780/index.jsp

And make sure you backup all your data. The upgrade process should work flawlessly for Windows XP. But Vista or 7, you may face difficulties....

Yes, so far the latest Firmware is doing great on my i780.
