duh...AVG's proclaimed 80 million users are from their antivirus update databasemeaning, it's not from the number of downloads at all, it's counted from the number of updates

And I can comfirm, the latest Norton 360 is another 'Norton' product.

What do I mean by 'Norton'?
1)System resource hogger, will slowwww your computer.
2)Perform scans diligently but never finds the virus
3)Plenty of unnecessary pop-outs

These are the famous downsides of Norton.

but still, Norton is an average antivirus. Not the best, and not the worst
but still, Norton will get raped if compared to NOD32, Kaspersky, Panda, Bitdefender.
And if anyone of you thinks that I'm lying, go google it out yourself. Then thy shall seek the truth

I used to have 4 computers running AVG Internet Security Trial that was downloaded from the official AVG website -> I used a Key Finder -> I entered the found keys -> Changed all my AVG IS "Trial keys" -> "Full/Pro keys". thumbup.gif After that, I managed to update it. Does that still count? shakehead.gif
I haven't encountered a single pop-up relating to NIS '09, may I know where you receive your pop-ups from? unsure.gif shocking.gif

See, you clearly don't know what you're mumbling about. AVG licensing protection is so weak that you can use AVG with pirated serial number and get those updates. I have someone who's being using pirated AVG for years. If updates is counted as AVG users, no wonder they got 80 millions, no, maybe even gazillion of users. doh.gif

so why pay more for Norton which will fail you ultimately?

rolleyes.gif LOLed again back at you. See that thread start date, it's May 2006. and AFAIK, Norton start releasing all-new-improved 2009 version at September 2008. Wouldn't that be overkill? It's clearly that the poll was made waaaaaaay earlier. In matter of fact, no one voting as of the date later than early 2008. So it CANNOT be used as a reference doh.gif

Would you admit if I call you a stupid dumb F? doh.gif You just got served dude... doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

And guys, why would you totally ditch Norton because of this guys lying words? The evidence is there that Norton has improved alot for the latest version, and you blademaster are so biased to realize that. rolleyes.gif You're just not being professional in this case. Admit your defeat.

If I were to reformat my Vista soon, I might give Norton a try. I'll install back ESET ESS (overall performance winner) if Norton doesn't fulfill my thirst(tho most likely won't be the case lulz).

Trust me, download and install the 15-day trial of NIS '09 and you'd be so amazed you tried the trial, you'd purchase it right after using it for 1 day.

I don't understand why you're getting personal over this.

Have I called you or other forumers names in this thread before? Yes, I labeled Norton/Symantec as lousy/hopeless before, but this has never gone personal. I think you're getting very emotional over this.

My motive here is not to hurt your feelings, I just wanted a matured spiritual exchange of thoughts about how Norton performs.

And please, don't call anyone names here or lodge any personal attacks. It's unfriendly.

Yeah, after all these, you said you just wanted a matured spiritual exchange of thoughts now? I'm not taking it personal, as you want matured thoughts about how Norton performs, I want it too. But you're too biased with your previous bad experiences with Norton and keep bashing up the new products with lies to persuade other peoples to not use it. I didn't lodge anything to anywhere.

So I guess it may ended here. The battling isn't going anywhere and Symantec won't giving me free copies of Norton products anyway. This thread should be kept as a references to future Symantec users, as it contains critical informations for users to make decisions.

Let's go on and keep it clean icon_rolleyes.gif

Oh so you're saying that you weren't emotional just now? But you clearly called me a dumb F doh.gif

And for the record, IMO, the current Norton 09 products wouldn't convince computer literate people. Maybe Norton can con the noobs.

I called you Stupid Dumb F just to show you how stupid your claim was and it's true, it's not something I created out of the hot air here. And for your record, computer literate peoples are wise enough to judge it from a series of facts from world's known antivirus testing organization such as av-comparatives, and not from you. It's not Norton, but you. Maybe you can con the noobs into believing your biased words, but not the literate peoples. I take back my previous statement, this is far from over. Let's get geared up.

ok, let me spit my facts out again

1)NAV 09 is faster than 08, but still much slower compared to other AV
2)NAV 09 detection rate is lower compared to other AV
3)NAV 09 is more expensive compared to the better AV out there

Do you read the ProtectStar PDF? If you see, Norton 09 detection rate is among the best with lesser false alarms than the god-like Kaspersky. Wasn't that enough proof for you? Or do you want all security experts to gather around you and tell you to your face? Norton 09 is certainly more expensive because of it's still lower number of user base due to bad products experiences in the past. What do you think Kaspersky prices when it's first build it momentum? Did you ever nag about it back then? NAV 09 is certainly much much more faster than it's predecessor, and certainly faster (in scanning speed) when compared to Eset. Again, do you read the ProtectStar PDF file?

I can't believe there's people that still defends his false statements when there's professional test results are there for them to see for free shakehead.gif shakehead.gif
