Anyone using Foobar2000 with KS or ASIO plugin? I have no problems setting the plug-in up but after comp restarts, foobar can't recover the plugin and I have to reconfigure. Anyone facing the same problem?

do you really need KS/ASIO?

have you try comparing the sound with/without them?

Well honestly I don't think there are difference in terms of quality. Just that I've read that ASIO/KS will deliver better sound at low latency with lower CPU utilization.

i changed back from KS to normal windows decoder as i cant hear any sound quality improvements... really!

Somemore, using KS, you can only listen to sound on 1 application at a time, meaing, if you r playing music, no Youtube sound in Firefox...sad.gif

I experienced the same thing also. Not sure why MS changed the audio stack in Vista.

Thanks for the suggestion. It works for foobar but when playing, other software can't play audio.

The reason why whdc rewrote the audio stack and denied direct access to the hardware is because hardware companies like Creative keep writing crappy drivers that keep crashing system with its kernel mode drivers and make Microsoft look bad. ASIO does not help "lower" cpu utilization. ASIO is used by professionals who demand ultra low latency recording and playback to sync with their time generators. Stick with "Primary Sound Driver" lol

For me i am using XOnar D2X combo with z-5500D i hear a huge difference. I love the new effect created by ASIO
