I am wondering, nowaday less people using Norton is that because once you update, their will caught you using "pirated" software and disable your antivirus? Last time I heard my friend said so (long time ago). Now I plan to purchase Norton Security 2008 and don't it is good or not.

Norton probably will eat lot of my RAM, anyway since I got lot of free RAM which around 99% of time my system will not using them, so I am ok will it.

I will vote for Avast. So far have been using it for around 5 months and everything seems good. Its better compared to Kaspersky in terms of performance cause initially I used Kaspersky and it drastically reduce my PC performance and it eats alot of CPU runtime when scanning in background.

I suppose Avast is a free anti-virus software available online. I only came across this software but never really used it, so can't really comment on its effectiveness on its performance to detect and wipe out viruses.
