His behind the backboard was nice but seen something similar before. But i don't actually like the superman dunk. He barely touches while many others actually succesfully dunks and touch the rim from the free throw line.

Pratically the NBA is redeeming themselves that last year Howard wasn't given credit for his sticker dunk.
But i like Howard's first dunk and also the palm-to-backboard dunk. 2 good dunks right there.
The Super man dunk? Not so much.
My boy Green shouldn't have done the same two dunks in the second round.

But one thing for sure. The first dunk you attempt has to be super entertaining and good. It gets the fans on your side.
Thats what people came to see, entertainment. Most of the time the guy with the best showmanship wins.

hey how often u see a 6 11" , 265lbs center can dunk with creativity at that elevation.. he's got a superhuman jump ... give d guy some credit.. and for +3kk! dwight howard could manage to do it if he was 6"6" or else his head would b bumped into the backboard if he had done it.. dats y he maintained his head behind the backboard whilst dunking it.. u cant compare a 6 " 6" with a 6" 11" , dey have limits and it all drills down on how they fully capitalize their sizes and ability to hang on their creativityness.. as for the superman, dat was just an icing on the cake just like matt mention, just plain creativity and humor added to it.. the first dunk dat won him the competition..

hey, this year's dunk contest was refreshing, the previous 4 years it had been just a plain bore...you look through, and ur like..yea i've seen that by others before, and the "superman" dunk is juz another show, his other 3 dunks were much interesting that others as well...Rudy Gay shud have juz changed his dunk when he saw what Dwight did...it was practically the same version of what Dwight did...

To those who claimed that the "S" dunk sucks, do you play basketball?

Do you know that it's more difficult to throw the ball through the basket (literally speaking) than putting it in??

Yes, THROW, not shoot, not layup, not dunk.

Another thing, he did the superman dunk using a 2 legged jump.
Before you start saying that other people can take off further than him and still make it to grab the rim, you should understand that taking off from 2 legs gives you much less distance. If you play basketball, you'd know.

Besides, creativity alone means he deserves the win IMO.

Btw, if any one you saw the youtube videos of Jamario Moon's practice for the dunk contest, you'll see that during practice, it would appear he made the dunk from 1 foot further than the free throw line. So he just messed up at the dunk contest lol.

that's the thing, im so anticipated about the Moon's dunk, his dunk is hard man to be honest. He shouldn't put that damn tape! It's just putting more pressure to himself and higher expectations. But Howard also put the tape too and perhaps the Superman Suit steals the show.

It's not always about the finishing dunk. You have to look at the elevation, the position of the legs, hands and body. In the superman dunk, if you take a still picture, it really looks like Howard was flying, and thats what makes the superman dunk look good......not the throwing the ball in to the basket thingy...thats why he scored a perfect 50..

actually ive seen it done before, and a number of times by people who do "fake dunks". you play ball you should have seen it a few times, quite common really. the dude runs goes into a dunking motion, and instead of laying the ball in he "throws" it in forcefully. the ball goes into a sharp angle instead of a layup or shooting arc angle, for our case because we cant dunk the ball normally what we see would be slightly arc'ed but sharp nonetheless. you see it when people playfully try and dunk.

also the other dude who tried and do the after the line dunk also did throw the ball into the basket, ive seen miss dunks like that also, wrong timing and he throws the ball into the basket.

the point of it being sucky is because he threw the ball in, im willing to bet everyone in the dunk contest can do that. which well spoils the point of the "dunk" really, would you like someone to do a after the free-throw and only to throw the ball in? what impressiveness would that be? or someone to do a super far trick only to throw it in. well soon we should change it to the "throw the ball in" contest

AGREE!!! It's all entertainment that actually matters!!

at least he is creative. Dunk actually means putting the ball into the basket. I see he is doing that, just that he does not touch the rim.

You can't compare those solid dunks of the 80's to now. Maybe running out of juice, so instead of power dunk, now evolve to like more of a "circus performance" since Steve Nash use his head to assist Stoudemire for dunk.

Howard's dunk is inspiring, and the crowd loves it. That's what NBA would like to see.

btw, i damn like how kenny smith response to the Superman dunk, haha!

And, about the kiss the rim dunk, he actually planned for this dunk for last year, but somehow he din do that. sad.gif

Totally agree, good point, jayhan!

Just watched the replay of the whole dunk contest.
The dunk that is the most impressive i would say is the Dwight Howard backboard dunk.
Worst dunk will be the Superman dunk. It is creative but i am still wondering if it is a dunk.
Cupcake dunk is funny too.

Gotta agree on that. That wasn't a dunk.
Not denying Howard's major hangtime but you gotta do better in a Slam Dunk competition.
All the hwuuu-hahhh of the Superman attire is rubbish. Seen that for the past 3 years where players bring out another jersey and stuff. Its the same concept.

If only Moon pulled off that GOAT dunk. Then we would have a show.
Not Superman bla bla crap.
