which would u guys go for ?

ATI HD 3870 512MB or Nvidia 9800 GT 512MB

building a custom laptop here. and most of the benchmarks i read dont show power consumption of these 2 cards.

it's an OEM board using the IntelĀ® PM45 express chipset. I dont quite see the relevance of mobo & graphic card choice tho...but do pardon my ignorance.

if it's the AMD Puma platform, i would ve said HD3870...

the 2 cards ve a difference of 2k in 3D Mark 05, so considering it's a laptop, the performance difference is not very significant...

however, Nvidia have better driver support compared to ATi, but Nvidia's GPU are having some problem lately, and is rumoured to have spread to the G92 GPU as well...

to be safe i would go for HD3870...

If i not mistaken it can be both. Depends on what the model the manufacturer is buying.

depends...

Dell use DDR2, but BenQ use GDDR3...

do some research first...

and there's no such thing as 512MB = DDR2 and 256MB = GDDR3... it all depends on the manufacturer on how they want to strike a balance between cost and performance... in fact 512MB DDR2 is slower than 256MB GDDR3

Just wanna ask, which has better support (for drivers, etc.) when the card is outdated. Nvidia or Ati? I heard that Ati tends to let go support for older cards much quicker than Nvidia.

What about ATI Radeon Mobility HD3470? It falls in which class? Is it good or just a bit better than onboard GMA X3100?
